Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

Simplified Gravity Load Collapse Dynamic Analysis of Old-Type Reinforced Concrete Frames

open access: yesConstruction Materials
The results of shaking table tests from previous studies on a one-story, two-bay reinforced concrete frame—exhibiting both shear and axial failures—were compared with nonlinear dynamic analyses using simplified models intended to evaluate the collapse ...

Investigation on ultimate strength of thin wall tee pipe for sodium cooled fast reactor under seismic loading

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal, 2016
It is important to investigate the failure mode and ultimate strength of piping components in order to evaluate the seismic integrity of piping. Many failure tests of thick wall and high pressure piping for Light Water Reactors (LWRs) have been ...

Collapse and stable self-trapping for Bose-Einstein condensates with 1/r^b type attractive interatomic interaction potential

open access: yes, 2010
We consider dynamics of Bose-Einstein condensates with long-range attractive interaction proportional to $1/r^b$ and arbitrary angular dependence. It is shown exactly that collapse of Bose-Einstein condensate without contact interactions is possible only

The Aging Blood: Cellular Origins, Circulating Drivers, and Therapeutic Potential

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
As a conduit linking all organs, the blood system both reflects and actively drives systemic aging. This review highlights how circulating pro‐aging and antiaging factors and age‐associated hematopoietic stem cell dysfunction contribute to immunosenescence and multi‐organ decline, positioning the hematopoietic system as a target for aging intervention.

Collapse Mechanisms of Nascent and Aged Sea Spray Aerosol Proxy Films

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2018
Sea spray aerosol (SSA) is highly enriched in marine-derived organic compounds during seasons of high biological productivity, and saturated fatty acids comprise one of the most abundant classes of molecules.

Case of a 35‐Year‐Old Man With Pain With Sneezing and Leg Weakness Causing Collapse

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This case details a 35‐year‐old man with no past medical history who presents with acute paraparesis and urinary retention in the setting of progressive paresthesias and weakness of his lower and upper extremities over several months. He was found to have longitudinally extensive transverse myelitis involving the cervical to mid‐thoracic cord ...

Systemic contributions to global catastrophic risk

open access: yesGlobal Sustainability
Non-technical summary We live in a time of significant global risk. Some research has focused on understanding systemic sources of this risk, while other research has focused on possible worst-case outcomes.
