Random choices facilitate solutions to collective network coloring problems by artificial agents

open access: yesiScience, 2021
Summary: Global coordination is required to solve a wide variety of challenging collective action problems from network colorings to the tragedy of the commons.

Loss of proton‐sensing GPR4 reduces tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
G protein‐coupled receptor 4 (GPR4) is a pH‐sensing receptor activated by acidic pH. GPR4 expression is increased in patients with inflammatory bowel disease who are at high risk of developing colorectal cancer. In mouse models, loss of GPR4 attenuated tumor progression. This correlated with increased IL2 and natural killer cell activity.

Three Stage Bleaching of Recycled Fibers Containing 30% Groundwood [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
A three stage bleaching sequence for a mixture of recycled chemical and groundwood fibers was investigated for maximum brightness increase. The three stages consisted of a reducing or color stripping stage, an oxidizing stage, and last a mild alkaline ...

Systematic profiling of cancer‐fibroblast interactions reveals drug combinations in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Fibroblasts, cells in the tumor environment, support ovarian cancer cell growth and alter morphology and drug response. We used fibroblast and cancer cell co‐culture models to test 528 drugs and discovered new drugs for combination treatment. We showed that adding Vorinostat or Birinapant to standard chemotherapy may improve drug response, suggesting ...

Multipartite secure state distribution

open access: yes, 2005
We introduce the distribution of a secret multipartite entangled state in a real-world scenario as a quantum primitive. We show that in the presence of noisy quantum channels (and noisy control operations) any state chosen from the set of two-colorable ...

Interaction between staining and degradation of a composite resin in contact with colored foods

open access: yesBrazilian Oral Research, 2011
Composite resins might be susceptible to degradation and staining when in contact with some foods and drinks. This study evaluated color alteration and changes in microhardness of a microhybrid composite after immersion in different colored foods and ...

Genomics‐led approach to drug testing in models of undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
GA text Genomic data from undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma patients and preclinical models were used to inform a targeted drug screen. Selected compounds were tested in 2D and 3D cultures of UPS cell lines. A combination of trametinib and infigratinib was synergistic in the majority of UPS cell lines tested, which was further confirmed in an ex ...

Strong Structural Controllability of Systems on Colored Graphs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This paper deals with structural controllability of leader-follower networks. The system matrix defining the network dynamics is a pattern matrix in which a priori given entries are equal to zero, while the remaining entries take nonzero values.

Can discolored dental composites be bleached in depth? [PDF]

open access: yesRestorative Dentistry & Endodontics
ObjectivesPrevious in vitro studies determined the whitening effects of bleaching products on stained resin composite surfaces. This in vitro study aimed to verify the effectiveness of a whitening system on composite resin previously subjected to ...

Effect of two whitening agents on the color of composite dental restorations

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Experimental Dentistry, 2019
To evaluate color changes to composite resins used to restore extracted teeth compared with composite discs after whitening with two agents: hydrogen peroxide (HP) and carbamide peroxide (CP).Ten human molars with class V vestibular and palatine cavity preparation obturated with Vita hybrid nanocomposite were hemisected to obtain 20 specimens assigned ...
