Effects of the Planar Galactic Tides and Stellar Mass on Comet Cloud Dynamics

open access: yes, 2009
We report the first results of a research program to explore the sensitivity of the orbits of Oort cloud comets to changes in the strength of the Galactic tides in the plane of the disk and also to changes in the mass of the host star.

A Distribution of Large Particles in the Coma of Comet 103P/Hartley 2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The coma of comet 103P/Hartley 2 has a significant population of large particles observed as point sources in images taken by the Deep Impact spacecraft. We measure their spatial and flux distributions, and attempt to constrain their composition.

The Dust-to-Gas Ratio, Size Distribution, and Dust Fall-Back Fraction of Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko: Inferences From Linking the Optical and Dynamical Properties of the Inner Comae

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2020
In this work, we present results that simultaneously constrain the dust size distribution, dust-to-gas ratio, fraction of dust re-deposition, and total mass production rates for comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.

Heteroclinic Connections between Periodic Orbits in Planar Restricted Circular Three Body Problem - Part II [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We present a method for proving the existence of symmetric periodic, heteroclinic or homoclinic orbits in dynamical systems with the reversing symmetry.

MOND orbits in the Oort cloud

open access: yes, 2010
We numerically investigate the features of typical orbits occurring in the Oort cloud (r\approx 50-150 kAU) in the low-acceleration regime of the MOdified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND).

Realistic Models for the Comet Dynamical Environment [PDF]

open access: yesAIAA/AAS Astrodynamics Specialist Conference and Exhibit, 2006
An outgassing jet model is presented in support of spacecraft navigation for future missions to comets. The outgassing jet is modelled as an emission cone while the comet is modelled as a uniform density triaxial ellipsoid. The comet’s motion about the Sun is included in the model.

Dual‐Peptide Nanoplatform: Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles Functionalized With a Cell‐Penetrating Peptide and Loaded With Rationally Designed Antimicrobial Peptides for Tuberculosis Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Machine learning–guided engineering of a plectasin‐derived peptide yields DC05, a potent antimycobacterial candidate. Encapsulation into tuftsin‐functionalized mesoporous silica nanoparticles enhances intracellular delivery, stability, and activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis while maintaining low cytotoxicity and minimal hemolysis. The combined

Strain Partitioning and Fault Kinematics in the Northern Qilian Shan (NE Tibet) Determined From Bayesian Inference of Geodetic Data

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Oblique convergence across the northern Qilian Shan is accommodated by sub‐parallel strike‐slip and thrust faults that ruptured simultaneously in the Mw 8 Gulang earthquake in 1927.

Comet 108P/Ciffreo: The Blob

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2023
Short-period comet 108P/Ciffreo is known for its peculiar double morphology, in which the nucleus is accompanied by a comoving, detached, diffuse “blob.” We report new observations of 108P/Ciffreo taken with the Hubble Space Telescope and the Nordic ...

Solar sailing: mission applications and engineering challenges [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Solar sailing is emerging as a promising form of advanced spacecraft propulsion, which can enable exciting new space-science mission concepts. By exploiting the momentum transported by solar photons, solar sails can perform high-energy orbit transfer ...
