A UAV‐based deep learning pipeline for intertidal macrobenthos monitoring: Behavioral and age classification in Tachypleus tridentatus

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
The endangered tri‐spine horseshoe crab (Tachypleus tridentatus), a “living fossil” crucial to coastal ecology and biomedical research, is experiencing severe population declines. Effective conservation requires efficient monitoring, which traditional methods cannot deliver at scale. We develop an integrated UAV deep learning framework tailored to this

Changes in the biochemical status of common carp juveniles (Cyprinus carpio L.) exposed to ammonium chloride and potassium phosphate

open access: yes, 2020
Biogen elements that enter the water in large quantities are one of the main pollutants in the aquatic environment. They lead both to eutrophication of the reservoir and a decrease in the viability of young fish, acting as toxin.

Seasonal variation in wild pig (Sus scrofa) diet revealed by DNA metabarcoding

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, EarlyView.
Using DNA metabarcoding of fecal samples, we investigated the diet of wild pigs at an extensive bottomland hardwood forest ecosystem within Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge in Southern Arkansas. We found that wild pig diet was highly diverse and included at least 74 plant families and 106 genera and 23 species of vertebrates.

Measurement and comparison of Iron levels and hazard quotient (HQ) on muscle of farmed and marine fishes from Khuzestan, south west of Iran [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The aim of this study was to determine the concentration of iron and Hazard quotient (HQ) in muscle of four marine fishes, orange - spotted grouper (Epinephelus coioides), yellow fin sea bream (Acanthopagrus latus), tongue fishes (Cynoglossus arel ...

Distribution of choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) immunoreactivity in the brain of the teleost cyprinus carpio [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Cholinergic systems play a role in basic cerebral functions and its dysfunction is associated with deficit in neurodegenerative disease. Mechanisms involved in human brain diseases, are often approached by using fish models, especially cyprinids, given ...

125 years of exploration and research at Gough's Cave (Somerset, UK) 125 ans d'exploration et de recherches à Gough's Cave (Somerset, Royaume‐Uni)

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Anthropological Institute, EarlyView.
Our understanding of the recolonization of northwest Europe in the period leading up to the Lateglacial Interstadial relies heavily on discoveries from Gough's Cave (Somerset, UK). Gough's Cave is the richest Late Upper Palaeolithic site in the British Isles, yielding an exceptional array of human remains, stone and organic artefacts, and butchered ...

Heritability estimation for growth-related traits in juvenile wild common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) in the south of Caspian Sea [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Wild common carp of the Caspian Sea is one of the important fish in the north of Iran, which has been introduced to inland aquaculture. Its genetic characteristics are investigated to set up for breeding programs that are still unknown. Using wild common

Genome Expansion of ZPB1(a) and ZPC1(a) in Basal Species or Liver Expression of ZPB1a and ZPC1aa in Advanced Species, Two Different Strategies to Ensure Sufficient ZP Synthesis in Teleosts

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
We found that teleosts employed two different strategies to ensure sufficient ZP (zona pellucida) synthesis: expansion of ZPB1(a) and ZPC1(a) in basal species or liver expression of ZPB1a and ZPC1aa in advanced species. The N‐terminus of expanded ZPB1(a) or ZPC1(a) and liver‐expressed ZPB1a contains repeated units or low‐complexity regions to form ...
