Genetic Investigation of Aral Wild Common Carp Populations (Cyprinus carpio) Using ddRAD Sequencing

open access: yesDiversity, 2021
Common carp (Cyprinus carpio) is a widespread freshwater fish species of the Cyprinidae family, one of the largest and most diverse fish families. The natural habitats of C. carpio extend from Western Europe to South-East Asia.

Common Carp and Aquaculture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Aquaculture is the fastest growing animal-food-producing sector with a growth rate from 1970 of around 8.3% per year and with 52.5 million tons (in 2008; 68.3 including aquatic plants) and accounts for almost half of total food fish supply (SOFIA, 2010).

Climate Action Response Plans in Firms: Exploring the Characteristics of Firms Planning for a More Sustainable Future

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Firm‐level Climate Action Response Plans (CARPs) comprise firms' climate change mitigation and adaptation commitments. Encouraging firms to develop CARPs is thus vital for meeting ever‐pressing climate goals. Understanding the resources and capabilities facilitating firms to develop CARPs can inform evidence‐based approaches to accelerate ...

The use of boat electrofishing for koi carp (Cyprinus carpio) control in the Kauri Point catchment. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The koi carp is an ornamental strain of the common carp (Cyprinus carpio) which is believed to be one of the most ecologically detrimental of all freshwater invasive fish species.

Development of novel EST-SSR markers in common carp by data mining from public EST sequences [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Expressed sequence tags (ESTs) are a source for microsatellite development. In the present study, EST-derived microsatelltes (EST-SSRs) were generated and characterized in the common carp (Cyprinus carpio) by data mining from updated public EST databases

Enemy release: loss of parasites in invasive freshwater bivalves Sinanodonta woodiana and Corbicula fluminea

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Invasive freshwater bivalves harm native species, ecosystems and biodiversity, and incur economic costs. The enemy release hypothesis posits that invasive species are released from enemies during the invasion process, giving them a competitive advantage in the new environment.

Fish Scales: A Multifunctional Biomaterial from Nature

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Fish scales demonstrate nature's solution to impact protection through overlapping multilayered architecture. This biological design combines mineralized surfaces with collagen networks to achieve both flexibility and fracture resistance. The structural principles inspire advanced protective materials and biomedical implants, where damage tolerance ...

Strategies for Identification and Mitigation of Sanguinarine in Mustard Oil Adulterated by Argemone—A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Sanguinarine, a toxic alkaloid present in argemone, can lead to epidemic dropsy or chronic diseases through DNA intercalation and immune system suppression. Regulatory efforts face challenges due to economic motivations for adulteration as well as technical, social, and infrastructure barriers.

Structural and Functional Stability of Natural Actomyosin From Freshwater Snail (Bellamya bengalensis): Unraveling Thermal and pH Effects

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Natural actomyosin from B. bengalensis exhibited maximum solubility (∼69.9%) at 40°C and stability near neutral pH, with minimum solubility at pH 4. Surface hydrophobicity and emulsifying activity peaked at 50°C, whereas Ca2+‐ATPase and foaming peaked at 40°C. DSC and SDS–PAGE confirmed denaturation above 40°C.
