Common creativity

open access: yes, 2023
Creativity is often conceived in terms of insight, innovation, and invention realized through technical mastery and skill. Challenging this individualistic model are “inventions” like writing, something that surely gave no clue to the form it would ultimately take—script—or the ways in which it would reorganize behaviors and brains in the cognitive ...

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

Semi-empirical estimates of stratospheric circulation and the lifetimes of chlorofluorocarbons and carbon tetrachloride

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) are ozone-depleting substances with high radiative efficiencies; however, uncertainties in their atmospheric lifetimes hinder top-down emission monitoring efforts.

We Cannot Win the Access to Medicines Struggle Using the Same Thinking That Causes the Chronic Access Crisis [PDF]

open access: yesHealth and Human Rights, 2020
The inequity in access to COVID-19 vaccines that we are witnessing today is yet another symptom of a pharmaceutical economy that is not fit for purpose.

Monitoring of circulating tumor DNA allows early detection of disease relapse in patients with operable breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Monitoring circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in patients with operable breast cancer can reveal disease relapse earlier than radiology in a subset of patients. The failure to detect ctDNA in some patients with recurrent disease suggests that ctDNA could serve as a supplement to other monitoring approaches.

Surveying Wildlife in the Chilterns [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This guide grew out of a series of workshops for volunteers within the Chilterns Commons Project. It focuses on surveying wildlife on particular sites, such as the Chiltern commons, rather than surveying across the wider landscape, but we hope that the ...

LINC01116, a hypoxia‐lncRNA marker of pathological lymphangiogenesis and poor prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LINC01116 long noncoding RNA is induced by hypoxia and associated with poor prognosis and high recurrence rates in two cohorts of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Here, we demonstrate that besides its expression in cancer cells, LINC01116 is markedly expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells of the tumor stroma in which it participates in hypoxia ...

Governance of carbon dioxide removal: an AI-enhanced systematic map of the scientific literature

open access: yesFrontiers in Climate
IntroductionFor limiting global warming to well below 2°C rapid and stringent GHG emissions reductions are required. In addition, we also need to actively remove CO2 from the atmosphere via carbon dioxide removal (CDR).
