Effects of Compensatory Mutations on Evolved Strains of Antibiotic Resistant E.coli [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Pathogens that are exposed to antibiotics acquire mutations that confer resistance. In the absence of antibiotics resistant mutants have a lower fitness relative to their sensitive ancestral strain.

Phosphorylation‐Facilitated CKB Lactylation At K11 By GCN5 Enhances Creatine Kinase Activity and Mitigates Neuronal Damage After Cerebral Ischemia‐Reperfusion

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uncovers hierarchical coordination between K11 lactylation and S199 phosphorylation of CKB in cerebral ischemia‐reperfusion injury. Such dual modifications potentiate CKB enzymatic function, remodel energy metabolism, alleviate oxidative stress and neuronal damage, and represent a viable therapeutic target for stroke treatment.

Systematic identification of H274Y compensatory mutations in influenza a virus neuraminidase by high-throughput screening

open access: yes, 2013
Compensatory mutations contribute to the appearance of the oseltamivir resistance substitution H274Y in the neuraminidase (NA) gene of H1N1 influenza viruses.

Compensatory Mitophagy via NEDD4/HIF‐1α/BNIP3 Pathway Restrains EndMT and Renal Allograft Interstitial Fibrosis Induced by TNFα

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The role of TNFα in the process of renal allograft interstitial fibrosis is complex and multifaceted. As it can promote renal allograft interstitial fibrosis by inducing mitochondrial dysfunction and EndMT, and also mediating compensatory mitophagy through the NEDD4–HIF‐1α–BNIP3 pathway, which clears damaged mitochondria and inhibits EndMT, thereby ...

Table_1_Novel and reported compensatory mutations in rpoABC genes found in drug resistant tuberculosis outbreaks.XLSX

open access: yes
BackgroundRifampicin (RIF) is a key first-line drug used to treat tuberculosis, a primarily pulmonary disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. RIF resistance is caused by mutations in rpoB, at the cost of slower growth and reduced transcription ...

Mr BMT Achieves Systemic Macrophage Replacement With Preservation of Tissue Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Microglia replacement by bone marrow transplantation (Mr BMT) enables systemic replacement of tissue‐resident macrophages. Despite persistent macrophage and tissue remodeling across multiple organs, core biological functions and innate immune responses remain preserved, supporting long‐term maintenance of organismal homeostasis and the therapeutic ...

GHRHR Deficiency Enhances Retinal Ganglion Cell Survival and Visual Functions in Experimental Glaucoma by Inhibiting Ferroptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Glaucoma, a major cause of blindness, involves retinal ganglion cell (RGC) degeneration. This study shows growth hormone‐releasing hormone receptor (GHRHR) deficiency preserves RGC survival and restores vision, unlike activation which only aids survival.
