Bispecific Complement Engagers for Targeted Complement Activation
The Journal of Immunology, 2023Abstract Activation of the complement system represents an important effector mechanism of endogenous and therapeutic Abs. However, efficient complement activation is restricted to a subset of Abs due to the requirement of multivalent interactions between the Ab Fc regions and the C1 complex.

When activated, the system of serum proteins known as complement is involved in a wide variety of responses to inflammatory and noxious stimuli. In this article Eric Brown and Michael Frank review the activation of complement by the classical and alternative pathways and discuss some of its biological effects.

Initiation of Complement Activation
Springer Seminars in Immunopathology, 1984The complement system is an excellent one to look at as an example of a triggered enzyme system. It is found to use almost all the strategies of enzyme cascades and for initiation which were discussed in the introduction. The classical pathway is a fine example of an active zymogen form of activation and the alternative pathway is the canonical example

Summary A test has been devised to measure hemolytic complement activity of mouse serum. The chief requirement for detecting mouse hemolytic complement is the use of extremely large amounts of sensitizing antibody. The hemolytic factor measured in mouse serum is indeed complement.

Complement activation in pneumonia
Medical Microbiology and Immunology, 1979Complement analyses performed on serially collected plasma samples from 10 patients during acute infectious pneumonia or bronchopneumonia showed normal or increased values for hemolytic activity and Clq, C4, C3, and factor B levels. However, the levels of C3 breakdown products (C3d) were significantly (greater than 2 SD) increased in six patients ...

COMPLEMENT ACTIVATION IN MIGRAINE
The Lancet, 1977Forty patients attending the Prince Henry Hospital migraine clinic have been investigated for evidence of complement activation related to migraine. These patients had a history of clinically similar migraine attacks. Levels of serum complement components were determined in nine patients, both in and out of migraine.
