Adsorption and Separation by Flexible MOFs

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Flexible metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) present significant potential for gas storage and separation due to their structural dynamic. This review explores the rationale behind the flexible MOFs' enhanced working capacity and separation factors. It also addresses key challenges, including phase transition kinetics, crystal robustness, cycling, shaping,

Mussel‐Inspired Molecular Strategies for Fabricating Functional Materials With Underwater Adhesion and Self‐Healing Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review systematically examines the nanomechanical mechanisms of mussel‐inspired molecular interactions, primarily investigated by direct force measurement techniques such as surface forces apparatus and atomic force microscopy. The macroscopic adhesive and self‐healing performances of mussel‐inspired functional materials, including coacervates ...

Complement C3

open access: yes, 2012
Complement C3 is the central component of the human complement system. It is ~186 kDa in size, consisting of an α-chain (~110 kDa) and a β-chain (~75 kDa) that are connected by cysteine bridges. C3 in its native form is inactive. Cleavage of C3 into C3b (~177 kDa) and C3a (~9 kDa) is a crucial step in the complement activation cascade, which can be ...

Harnessing Synergistic Cooperation of Neighboring Active Motifs in Heterogeneous Catalysts for Enhanced Catalytic Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review examines the critical role of neighboring active motifs in heterogeneous catalysts, emphasizing how their synergistic cooperativity can be rationally designed to modulate catalytic properties. The discussion centers on the modulation of electronic and geometric structures, categorizing the catalytic systems into metal‐acid (Brønsted/Lewis ...

Mixed‐Metal Promotion in a Manganese‐Molybdenum Oxynitride as Catalyst to Integrate C─C and C─N Coupling Reactions for the Direct Synthesis of Acetonitrile from Syngas and Ammonia

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Transition metal oxy/carbo‐nitrides show great promise as catalysts for sustainable processes. A Mn‐Mo mixed‐metal oxynitride attains remarkable performance for the direct synthesis of acetonitrile, an important commodity chemical, via sequential C─N and C─C coupling from syngas (C1) and ammonia (N1) feedstocks.

Copper Catalysts Inherit and Retain Precatalyst Morphology in Extended CO Electroreduction to n‐Propanol

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Flash Joule heating enables the formation of quenched Cu oxide precatalysts with intragrain‐in‐grain architectures. These hierarchical structures are inherited after electroreduction, suppressing reconstruction even at high current densities in an MEA cell.

Francisella tularensis Confronts the Complement System

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2017
Francisella tularensis has developed a number of effective evasion strategies to counteract host immune defenses, not the least of which is its ability to interact with the complement system to its own advantage.
