ATF4‐mediated stress response as a therapeutic vulnerability in chordoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We screened 5 chordoma cell lines against 100+ inhibitors of epigenetic and metabolic pathways and kinases and identified halofuginone, a tRNA synthetase inhibitor. Mechanistically halofuginone induces an integrated stress response, with eIF2alpha phosphorylation, activation of ATF4 and its target genes CHOP, ASNS, INHBE leading to cell death ...

Prevalence-dependent use of serological tests for diagnosing glanders in horses

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research, 2009
Background The internationally mandatory complement fixation test (CFT) for testing of equine sera for the absence of glanders has repeatedly led to discrepant results. Not only do "false positive" sera pose a problem for the diagnostician and the animal

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Tumor mutational burden as a determinant of metastatic dissemination patterns

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study performed a comprehensive analysis of genomic data to elucidate whether metastasis in certain organs share genetic characteristics regardless of cancer type. No robust mutational patterns were identified across different metastatic locations and cancer types.

Real Prevalence of Bovine Brucellosis in the Center of Ivory Coast

open access: yesRevue d’Elevage et de Médecine Vétérinaire des Pays Tropicaux, 2008
During a serosurveillance survey carried out from July to August 2005 in Ivory Coast, 660 sera were collected in the administrative regions of N’Zi Comoe and Lacs, in the central part of the country. The sera were used to determine the real prevalence of

RaMBat: Accurate identification of medulloblastoma subtypes from diverse data sources with severe batch effects

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
To integrate multiple transcriptomics data with severe batch effects for identifying MB subtypes, we developed a novel and accurate computational method named RaMBat, which leveraged subtype‐specific gene expression ranking information instead of absolute gene expression levels to address batch effects of diverse data sources.

A reação de fixação do complemento na tipificação de vírus da gripe isolados no Rio de Janeiro The complement fixation test in the typefication of influenza viruses isolated in Rio de Janeiro

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 1976
O autor estudou, pela reação de fixação do complemento, amostras de vírus da gripe isoladas no Rio de janeiro, durante a epidemia de 1973. Preparou imunesoros em hamsters pela inoculação do líquido alantóide de embriões de galinha infectados.
