The authors examine the properties of weighted complementary IIR filters. Either real or complex allpass subfilters are utilized. The classical odd-order lowpass designs can be realized as a parallel connection of two real or complex conjugate allpass filters. A unique decomposition of arbitrary pairs of complementary sequences (including binary, polyphase and QAM) based on paraunitary matrices is presented.
