A Composite Seyfert 2 X-ray Spectrum: Implications for the Origin of the Cosmic X-ray Background [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We present a composite 1-10 keV Seyfert 2 X-ray spectrum, derived from ASCA observations of a distance-limited sample of nearby galaxies. All 29 observed objects were detected.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Experimental Study of Composite Hollow RC Column under Uniaxial Compressive Load

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
This paper presents an experimental study of the behavior of a steel-composite hollow reinforced concrete (RC) column under concentric loading. The effects of important variables, such as concrete strength, inner tube thickness, hollow ratio, column ...

Removal of phosphate with a polyacrylonitrile composite functionalized by a metal organic framework-enhanced layered double hydroxide

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 2023
Excessive phosphorus causes eutrophication problems. The adsorptive removal of phosphate is prevalent and practical in large-scale applications, such as column adsorption.

A scalar hint from the diboson excess?

open access: yes, 2015
In view of the recent diboson resonant excesses reported by both ATLAS and CMS Collaborations, we suggest that a new weak singlet pseudo-scalar particle, $\eta_W$, may decay into two weak bosons while being produced in gluon fusion at the LHC.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Compressive Behavior of Composite Concrete Columns with Encased FRP Confined Concrete Cores

open access: yesSensors, 2019
A composite concrete column with encased fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) confined concrete cores (EFCCC) is proposed in this paper. The cross-sectional form of the EFCCC column is composed of several orderly arranged FRP confined concrete cores (FCCCs ...
