Optimization of Composite Material Barrel Based on BP Neural Network Approximate Analysis

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2017
In order to improve the computational efficiency during the simulation and optimization process for the composite structure, the approximate analysis method was studied.

The Extended Regularized Dual Averaging Method for Composite Optimization

open access: yes, 2021
We present a new algorithm, extended regularized dual averaging (XRDA), for solving composite optimization problems, which are a generalization of the regularized dual averaging (RDA) method. The main novelty of the method is that it allows more flexible

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Optimization of composite structures [PDF]

open access: yes
Structural optimization is introduced and examples which illustrate potential problems associated with optimized structures are presented. Optimized structures may have very low load carrying ability for an off design condition.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Composite laminate tailoring with probabilistic constraints and loads [PDF]

open access: yes
A reliability-based structural synthesis procedure was developed to tailor laminates to meet reliability-based (ply) strength requirements and achieve desirable laminate responses.

Global convergence of splitting methods for nonconvex composite optimization

open access: yes, 2015
We consider the problem of minimizing the sum of a smooth function $h$ with a bounded Hessian, and a nonsmooth function. We assume that the latter function is a composition of a proper closed function $P$ and a surjective linear map $\cal M$, with the ...

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Probabilistic Multilevel Clustering via Composite Transportation Distance

open access: yes, 2018
We propose a novel probabilistic approach to multilevel clustering problems based on composite transportation distance, which is a variant of transportation distance where the underlying metric is Kullback-Leibler divergence.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
