The cytoskeletal control of B cell receptor and integrin signaling in normal B cells and chronic lymphocytic leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In lymphoid organs, antigen recognition and B cell receptor signaling rely on integrins and the cytoskeleton. Integrins act as mechanoreceptors, couple B cell receptor activation to cytoskeletal remodeling, and support immune synapse formation as well as antigen extraction.

Monitoring Conceptual Development: Design Considerations of a Formative Feedback tool [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper presents the design considerations of a tool aiming at providing formative feedback. The tool uses Latent Semantic Analysis, to automatically generate reference models and provide learners a means to compare their conceptual development ...

Hydrological hysteresis and its value for assessing process consistency in catchment conceptual models

open access: yes, 2015
While most hydrological models reproduce the general flow dynamics, they frequently fail to adequately mimic system-internal processes. In particular, the relation- ship between storage and discharge, which often follows annual hysteretic patterns in ...

CONCEPTUAL DECISION MODEL

open access: yesInternational Journal of Computing, 2004
Decision making is mostly based on decision concepts and decision models built in decision support systems. Type of decision problem determines application. This paper presents a conceptual decision model that utilises rule- based methodologies, numerical algorithms and procedures, statistical methodologies including distributions, and visual support ...

Social context prevents heat hormetic effects against mutagens during fish development

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study shows that sublethal heat stress protects fish embryos against ultraviolet radiation, a concept known as ‘hormesis’. However, chemical stress transmission between fish embryos negates this protective effect. By providing evidence for the mechanistic molecular basis of heat stress hormesis and interindividual stress communication, this study ...

Spatial Conceptual Modeling: Anchoring Knowledge in the Real World [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper introduces the concept of spatial conceptual modeling, which allows anchoring mental world knowledge in the physical world using augmented reality technologies. For a first formal characterization, we describe a mapping from the spatial information concepts location, field, object, network, and event, as used in spatial computing, to ...

An Object-Oriented Framework for Explicit-State Model Checking [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This paper presents a conceptual architecture for an object-oriented framework to support the development of formal verification tools (i.e. model checkers).

Data and phenomena in conceptual modelling [PDF]

open access: yesSynthese, 2009
The distinction between data and phenomena introduced by Bogen and Woodward (Philosophical Review 97(3):303-352, 1988) was meant to help accounting for scientific practice, especially in relation with scientific theory testing. Their article and the subsequent discussion is primarily viewed as internal to philosophy of science.
