Understanding the causal effects and heterogeneity between metabolic syndrome and lung function: a nationwide prospective cohort study in China

open access: yesDiabetology & Metabolic Syndrome
Background Metabolic syndrome (MetS) has been widely recognized as a risk factor for lung function. However, the evidence regarding the causal effect of MetS on lung function is limited, and it differs according to multidimensional individual ...

Enhancing CAR‐T Cell Efficacy in Solid Tumors by Inhibiting CCL5/VEGF‐Mediated Angiogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that CAR‐T cells in solid tumors produce CCL5, which paradoxically induces VEGF and angiogenesis to promote tumor growth. Blocking CCL5/VEGF signaling—through gene knockout, or the CCR5 inhibitor maraviroc—significantly enhances the antitumor efficacy of CAR‑T therapy (the diagram was created in Biorender).

Targeting METTL3 Attenuates Thyroid Inflammatory Injury by Restoring Th17/Treg Balance through a YTHDC2‐m6A‐Dependent KDR/VEGFA Loop

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
METTL3‐mediated m6A modification stabilizes KDR/Kdr mRNA through YTHDC2, amplifying the VEGFA‐KDR feedback loop and disturbing Th17/Treg balance. This pathway promotes persistent inflammation and tissue damage in patients with AIT, and inhibiting the METTL3‐KDR axis effectively disrupts this circuit, alleviating thyroid tissue injury and disease ...

The functional average treatment effect

open access: yesJournal of Causal Inference
This article establishes the functional average as an important estimand for causal inference. The significance of the estimand lies in its robustness against traditional issues of confounding.

Triple/Debiased Lasso for Statistical Inference of Conditional Average Treatment Effects

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal
This study investigates the estimation and the statistical inference about Conditional Average Treatment Effects (CATEs), which have garnered attention as a metric representing individualized causal effects. In our data-generating process, we assume linear models for the outcomes associated with binary treatments and define the CATE as a difference ...

Engineering Approaches to Modify Immunomodulatory Functions of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells (MSCs): Tissue Regeneration and Clinical Application

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) show promise for treating immune‐related disorders through immunomodulation and tissue regeneration. This review gives a brief overview of current clinical approval of MSC therapies. It also discussed how bioengineering, including genetic modification, biomaterial delivery, extracellular vesicles, and iPSC‐derived MSCs,

Externality and Behavioural Change Effects of a Non-randomised CCT Programme: Heterogeneous Impact on the Demand for Health and Education

open access: yes
This paper investigates the impact of the pilot phase of Paraguay’s conditional cash transfer programme, Tekoporã, on the demand for healthcare and education, and how much of this impact was due to the cash transfers and/or due to changes in behaviour ...

Must conditional cash transfer programs be conditioned to be effective?: The impact of conditioning transfers on school enrollment in Mexico [PDF]

open access: yes
"A growing body of evidence suggests that conditional cash transfer (CCT) programs can have strong, positive effects on a range of welfare indicators for poor households in developing countries.

GHRHR Deficiency Enhances Retinal Ganglion Cell Survival and Visual Functions in Experimental Glaucoma by Inhibiting Ferroptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Glaucoma, a major cause of blindness, involves retinal ganglion cell (RGC) degeneration. This study shows growth hormone‐releasing hormone receptor (GHRHR) deficiency preserves RGC survival and restores vision, unlike activation which only aids survival.

How to Control for Many Covariates? Reliable Estimators Based on the Propensity Score [PDF]

open access: yes
We investigate the finite sample properties of a large number of estimators for the average treatment effect on the treated that are suitable when adjustment for observable covariates is required, like inverse probability weighting, kernel and other ...
