Genetically-induced cholinergic hyper-innervation enhances taste learning

open access: yesFrontiers in Systems Neuroscience, 2011
Acute inhibition of acetylcholine (ACh) has been shown to impair many forms of simple learning, and notably conditioned taste aversion (CTA). The most adhered-to theory that has emerged as a result of this work—that ACh increases a taste’s perceived ...

Testing the Marketing Performance of German Wheat Farmers

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper analyses the marketing performance of wheat farmers in Germany. Wheat sales data from 465 individual farms over a 12‐year period are used to test against different market benchmarks. Market benchmarks are constructed by simulating passive trading agents using regional wheat prices.

Lesions of the lateral habenula increase voluntary ethanol consumption and operant self-administration, block yohimbine-induced reinstatement of ethanol seeking, and attenuate ethanol-induced conditioned taste aversion.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
The lateral habenula (LHb) plays an important role in learning driven by negative outcomes. Many drugs of abuse, including ethanol, have dose-dependent aversive effects that act to limit intake of the drug.

Does a Specialized Niche Market Vegetable Processor Enjoy Bargaining Power?

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Agribusiness companies may achieve competitive advantage through specialization within niche markets. One such niche is the fresh‐cut fruit and vegetable market, which has been steadily growing in Germany. This study examines whether the specialization of a German fresh‐cut producer grants it with market power within this niche market.

Memory-enhancing effects of short-term fasting

open access: yesThe European Zoological Journal, 2020
Many recent reports describe memory-enhancing effects of short-term fasting, but the underlying mechanisms are unknown. In the present study, we demonstrate that the insulin increase occurring during short-term fasting is a key factor in forming the ...

Effects of Septal Lesions on a Higher-Order Conditioned Taste Aversion: A Preliminary Analysis

open access: yes, 1992
Septal-lesioned rats ( n = 7) and nonsurgical controls ( n = 7) were exposed to a higher-order conditioned taste aversion procedure and the effects of septal lesions on the development of a higher-order conditioned taste aversion examined.

Assessing the Impact of Promotions on Consumer Purchasing Behavior During Crises

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Understanding how households modify their food expenditure decisions during times of crisis is essential because consumer purchasing behavior frequently changes during these times. This study looks at these behavioral shifts during the COVID‐19 pandemic, concentrating on how price sensitivity and response to sales promotions changed over the ...

Conditioned taste aversion versus avoidance: A re-examination of the separate processes hypothesis.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Rats not only avoid ingesting a substance associated with LiCl toxicosis, but they display rejection reflexes (e.g., gapes) to its taste; this latter response is thought to reflect disgust or taste aversion.

Learning scores by taste aversion training.

open access: yes, 2013
After the CS was paired 10 times with the US in the taste aversion-training session, the feeding response to the CS was significantly reduced (**P0.05) in the feeding response of the taste aversion-trained snails, backward-conditioned or naive control ...

Video and Text‐Based Supplemental Health Information and Consumer Willingness to Pay for Nutrient‐Enhanced Eggs

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Nutritional information is very important in the food choices of consumers. However, when they are too scientific or technical, they have the potential to confuse consumers, resulting in information asymmetry and dissuading them from making beneficial choices.
