Antiproliferative Effects of Roylea cinerea (D. Don) Baillon Leaves in Immortalized L6 Rat Skeletal Muscle Cell Line: Role of Reactive Oxygen Species Mediated Pathway

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2020
Roylea cinerea (D. Don) Baill. (Lamiaceae) is an indigenous plant of Western Himalayas, and has been used by the native population for the treatment of various diseases such as fever, malaria, diabetes, jaundice, and skin ailments.

Defining an Optimal Sample Size for Corneal Epithelial Immune Cell Analysis Using in vivo Confocal Microscopy Images

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine, 2022
PurposeIn vivo confocal microscopy (IVCM) images are frequently used to quantify corneal epithelial immune cell (IC) density in clinical studies. There is currently limited evidence to inform the selection of a representative image sample size to yield a

On a discretization of confocal quadrics. II. A geometric approach to general parametrizations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We propose a discretization of classical confocal coordinates. It is based on a novel characterization thereof as factorizable orthogonal coordinate systems. Our geometric discretization leads to factorizable discrete nets with a novel discrete analog of the orthogonality property.

Etoposide‐induced cancer cell death: roles of mitochondrial VDAC1 and calpain, and resistance mechanisms

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The complex mode of action of the topoisomerase II inhibitor etoposide in triggering apoptosis involves several mechanisms: overexpression of the mitochondrial protein VDAC1, leading to its oligomerization and formation of a large channel that mediates the release of pro‐apoptotic protein; and overexpression of the apoptosis regulators p53, Bax, and ...

A mode generator and multiplexer at visible wavelength based on all-fiber mode selective coupler

open access: yesNanophotonics, 2020
Using an all-fiber mode selective coupler (MSC) at the visible band, here we experimentally demonstrate a generating and wavelength multiplexing scheme for the cylindrical vector (CV) and vortex beams (VBs).

Multiview Scattering Scanning Imaging Confocal Microscopy through a Multimode Fiber [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Confocal and multiphoton microscopy are effective techniques to obtain high-contrast images of 2-D sections within bulk tissue. However, scattering limits their application to depths only up to ~1 millimeter. Multimode fibers make excellent ultrathin endoscopes that can penetrate deep inside the tissue with minimal damage.

Respiratory complex I‐mediated NAD+ regeneration regulates cancer cell proliferation through the transcriptional and translational control of p21Cip1 expression by SIRT3 and SIRT7

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
NAD+ regeneration by mitochondrial complex I NADH dehydrogenase is important for cancer cell proliferation. Specifically, NAD+ is necessary for the activities of NAD+‐dependent deacetylases SIRT3 and SIRT7, which suppress the expression of p21Cip1 cyclin‐dependent kinase inhibitor, an antiproliferative molecule, at the translational and transcriptional

Near-Infrared In Vivo Imaging of Claudin-1 Expression by Orthotopically Implanted Patient-Derived Colonic Adenoma Organoids

open access: yesDiagnostics
Background: Claudin-1 becomes overexpressed during the transformation of normal colonic mucosa to colorectal cancer (CRC). Methods: Patient-derived organoids expressed clinically relevant target levels and genetic heterogeneity, and were established from

Versatile high-speed confocal microscopy using a single laser beam [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We present a new flexible high speed laser scanning confocal microscope and its extension by an astigmatism particle tracking device (APTV). Many standard confocal microscopes use either a single laser beam to scan the sample at relatively low overall frame rate, or many laser beam to simultaneously scan the sample and achieve a high overall frame rate.

Pseudo-Euclidean Billiards within Confocal Curves on the Hyperboloid of One Sheet [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
We consider a billiard problem for compact domains bounded by confocal conics on a hyperboloid of one sheet in the Minkowski space. We show that there are two types of confocal families in such setting. Using an algebro-geometric integration technique, we prove that the billiard within generalized ellipses of each type is integrable in the sense of ...
