Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Confocal Laser Endomicroscopy [PDF]

open access: yesGastroenterology Research and Practice, 2012
Confocal laser endomicroscopy (CLE) is a newly developed endoscopic technique that enables imaging of the mucosal layer during endoscopy at a subcellular level of resolution. The method can therefore be used for the assessment of changes in vascular architecture, connective tissue, and cellular components in the mucosa, enabling endoscopists to collect

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Virtual Histology Staining of Skin Tissue using Ex Vivo Confocal Microscopy and Deep Learning [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Physics and Engineering
Background: The use of Hematoxylin-and-Eosin (H&E) staining is widely accepted as the most reliable method for diagnosing pathological tissues. However, the conventional H&E staining process for tissue sections is time-consuming and requires significant ...

Ex Vivo Murine Skin Model for B. burgdorferi Biofilm

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2020
Borrelia burgdorferi, the causative agent of Lyme disease, has been recently shown to form biofilm structures in vitro and in vivo. Biofilms are tightly clustered microbes characterized as resistant aggregations that allow bacteria to withstand harsh ...

Spatial Correlations and Distribution of Competence Gene Expression in Biofilms of Streptococcus mutans

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2021
Streptococcus mutans is an important pathogen in the human oral biofilm. It expresses virulent behaviors that are linked to its genetic competence regulon, which is controlled by comX. Expression of comX is modulated by two diffusible signaling peptides,

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Endoscopic Confocal Imaging [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, 2005
In vivo fluorescence endomicroscopy is a newly developed diagnostic tool enabling virtual in vivo histology of the mucosal layer during ongoing endoscopy. This review summarizes currently available data about the technique and clinical use of confocal endomicroscopy.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...
