Confounding factors of primary venous thromboses and embolisms associated with reproductive behavior of women [PDF]

open access: yesГинекология, 2016
Objective. To identify the major confounding factors of primary venous thromboses and embolisms associated with reproductive behavior of women. Subjects and methods. Retrospective analysis of risk factors for venous thromboembolic events (VTEEs) was made

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Retirement provision for New Zealand women: The relative role of demographic influence [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
This research contributes to our knowledge of retirement provision by clarifying the obstacles that women face in relation to old age provision. By using multivariate analysis and therefore by controlling for confounding effects, this study has isolated ...

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Iron overload and arrhythmias: Influence of confounding factors

open access: yesJournal of Arrhythmia, 2019
Arrhythmias as a cardiac complication of iron overload (IO) have been well described for decades in the clinical literature. They are assumed to be directly associated with the myocardial accumulation of iron.

Soil Chemistry Factors Confounding Crop Salinity Tolerance—A Review

open access: yesAgronomy, 2016
The yield response of various crops to salinity under field conditions is affected by soil processes and environmental conditions. The composition of dissolved ions depend on soil chemical processes such as cation or anion exchange, oxidation-reduction ...

Combining antibody conjugates with cytotoxic and immune‐stimulating payloads maximizes anti‐cancer activity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Methods to improve antibody–drug conjugate (ADC) treatment durability in cancer therapy are needed. We utilized ADCs and immune‐stimulating antibody conjugates (ISACs), which are made from two non‐competitive antibodies, to enhance the entry of toxic payloads into cancer cells and deliver immunostimulatory agents into immune cells.

A Review of Mendelian Randomization: Assumptions, Methods, and Application to Obesity-Related Diseases

open access: yesJournal of Obesity & Metabolic Syndrome
Mendelian randomization (MR) is a statistical method that uses genetic variants as instrumental variables to estimate the causal effect of exposure on an outcome in the presence of unmeasured confounding.

Correlation of the differential expression of PIK3R1 and its spliced variant, p55α, in pan‐cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PIK3R1 undergoes alternative splicing to generate the isoforms, p85α and p55α. By combining large patient datasets with laboratory experiments, we show that PIK3R1 spliced variants shape cancer behavior. While tumors lose the protective p85α isoform, p55α is overexpressed, changes linked to poorer survival and more pronounced in African American ...
