A study of normal dynamic parameter models of joint interfaces based on fractal theory

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2015
The dynamic behaviors of the joint interfaces make a great difference in machine tools, especially in high-end numerical control machines. To provide an assessment of the normal dynamic parameters in contact deformation of elastoplastic solid joint ...

On the Mechanism of Cavitation Damage by Nonhemispherical Cavities Collapsing in Contact With a Solid Boundary [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Basic Engineering, 1961
A perfect fluid theory, which neglects the effect of gravity, and which assumes that the pressure inside a cavitation bubble remains constant during the collapse process, is given for the case of a nonhemispherical, but axially symmetric cavity which collapses in contact with a solid boundary.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Basic Principle and Contact Analysis of Internal Meshing Gear Drive with Curve Configuration

open access: yesJixie chuandong, 2022
Based on gear transmission conjugate-curve theory research, taking the internal meshing gear transmission with curve element as the object, general meshing equation of spatial conjugate curves along the designated contact angle position is derived and ...

Analysis of an Elasto-Hydrodynamic Seal by Using the Reynolds Equation

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
This paper reports numerical studies of an Elasto-Hydrodynamic (EHD) seal, which is being developed for supercritical CO2 (sCO2) turbomachinery applications. Current sCO2 turbomachinery suffers from high leakage rates, which is creating a major roadblock

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Tykhonov well-posedness of fixed point problems in contact mechanics

open access: yesFixed Point Theory and Algorithms for Sciences and Engineering, 2022
We consider a fixed point problem S u = u $\mathcal {S}u=u$ where S : C ( R + ; X ) → C ( R + ; X ) ${\mathcal {S}:C(\mathbb{R}_{+};X)\to C(\mathbb{R}_{+};X)}$ is an almost history-dependent operator.

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Two-Step Growth Mechanism of the Solid Electrolyte Interphase in Argyrodyte/Li-Metal Contacts

open access: yesACS Applied Materials & Interfaces
The structure and growth of the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) region between an electrolyte and an electrode is one of the most fundamental yet less well-understood phenomena in solid-state batteries. We present an atomistic simulation of the SEI growth for one of the currently promising solid electrolytes (Li6PS5Cl), based on ab initio-trained ...
