Synergistic Solar Interfacial Evaporation and Photocatalysis Enabled by a Hierarchical Porous Hydrogel Reactor

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A tree‐inspired hydrogel interfacial reactor couples solar evaporation with photocatalysis for simultaneous desalination and waste water treatment. The bilayer design achieves 2.14 kg·m−2·h−1 evaporation rate with 79% dye degradation under one sun, demonstrating that photothermal heating and evaporation induced pollutant enrichment create a self ...

Advancements in Hypersaline Wastewater Treatment: The Promise of Quasi‐Liquid Surfaces to Reduce Salt Scaling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Durable quasi‐liquid polymer brush surfaces provide an anti‐scaling strategy for hypersaline brine evaporation and zero‐liquid‐discharge desalination. The smooth, liquid‐like QLS interface suppresses substrate‐side salt nucleation, promotes compact crystallization and dewetting, reduces crystal–surface contact area, and enables low‐adhesion salt ...

Enhancing fish drying efficiency and quality: A comparative study of intermittent microwave convective drying (IMCD) and conventional methods

open access: yesFuture Foods
Microwave (MW) heating offers a unique drying mechanism which pushes internal moisture to the surface during the drying of water-rich foods including fish.

Effects of osmotic dehydration factors on convective drying kinetics of pears slices (Pyrus Communis L.) [PDF]

open access: yesJournal on Processing and Energy in Agriculture, 2010
The paper presents results of the research on the effects of osmotic dehydration, applied as a pre-treatment, on convective drying kinetics of pear cultivars 'William', in the form of ¼ of fruit, i.e. slices.

Assessment of constant and time-varying temperature schemes on the convective drying characteristics of hemp leaves

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering, 2021
In the present study, selected mathematical drying models are evaluated for describing the convective drying of hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) leaves. Drying kinetics have been experimentally investigated in a laboratory scale convective dryer for a constant ...

Interaction‐Driven Assembly Pathways in Heterogeneous Active Microrobotic Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Peanut‐ and cube‐shaped light‐powered microrobots exhibit distinct magnetic and photocatalytic responses that determine their heterogeneous self‐assembly. In the dark, magnetic dipole interactions drive colloidal copolymerization with cubes acting as nucleation centers, whereas under light irradiation, phoretic interactions compete with magnetic ...

Mineral Deposition From Liquid Precursors Triggered by Complementary Polyelectrolytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polyelectrolyte additives can delay or prevent crystal nucleation in supersaturated solutions of insoluble mineral salts such as calcium carbonate. This work reports that adding a second, oppositely‐charged polyelectrolyte leads to immediate mineral crystallization from such metastable solutions.

Microwave and Ultrasound Assisted Rotary Drying of Carrot: Analysis of Process Kinetics and Energy Intensity

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Convective drying is one of the most commonly employed preservation techniques for food. However, the use of high temperatures and extended drying times often leads to a reduction in product quality and increased energy consumption.

Convective drying of organic pear pulp in a thin stagnant layer [PDF]

open access: yesJournal on Processing and Energy in Agriculture, 2018
The aim of this paper is to present the influence of convective drying of organic pear pulp and adding ascorbic acid on changes in color, the difference in vitamin C content and also show the kinetics of convective drying. It was a two-factor experiment.
