Remote Activation of Wnt Signaling and Cell Proliferation by E‐Cadherin Magnetomechanical Stimulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A pioneering magnetogenetic toolkit enables non‐invasive, precise spatiotemporal modulation of intracellular Wnt/β‐catenin signaling. Functionalized magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs@E/EC15) target cellular E‐cadherins to generate localized magnetomechanical forces under low‐intensity magnetic fields.

Interactions between copper homeostasis and the fungal cell wall affect copper stress resistance.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2022
Copper homeostasis mechanisms are essential for microbial adaption to changing copper levels within the host during infection. In the opportunistic fungal pathogen Cryptococcus neoformans (Cn), the Cn Cbi1/Bim1 protein is a newly identified copper ...

GDNF‐Enriched Small Extracellular Vesicle‐Loaded ROS‐Scavenging Hydrogel Promotes Neural Regeneration After Spinal Cord Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A glial cell line‐derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF)‐enriched small extracellular vesicle‐loaded reactive oxygen species (ROS)‐scavenging hydrogel integrates sustained neurotrophic delivery with local modulation of oxidative and inflammatory stress after spinal cord injury. The composite hydrogel improves local vesicle retention, protects neural tissue,

A Critical Call for Mechanistic Investigations of Metal‐Bacteria Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
It is well established that the antibacterial properties of metals have tremendous importance for bioengineering applications. What is not as appreciated, however, is the reproducibility crisis in this field's vast literature. In this perspective, we highlight this reproducibility problem, discuss its sources, and suggest solutions towards focused ...

GaSex Nanoparticles Modulate Neutrophil Function and Mitigate NET‐Driven Osteogenic Impairment in Osteomyelitis Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) emerge as a critical repair‐limiting factor in osteomyelitis, driving osteoblast mitochondrial dysfunction and excessive PINK1/Parkin‐mediated mitophagy. Gallium–selenium nanoparticles (GaSex) scavenge reactive oxygen species, redirect neutrophils from NETosis toward bactericidal phagocytosis, eliminate methicillin‐

Excessive copper impairs intrahepatocyte trafficking and secretion of selenoprotein P

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
Selenium homeostasis depends on hepatic biosynthesis of selenoprotein P (SELENOP) and SELENOP-mediated transport from the liver to e.g. the brain. In addition, the liver maintains copper homeostasis. Selenium and copper metabolism are inversely regulated,

Rab1A Promotes Hepatic Steatosis by Suppressing Mitophagy via the Raf‐1/ERK1/2/PINK1 Signaling Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Why does fat accumulate in the liver? Our study reveals Rab1A as the molecular switch that silences the cell's mitochondrial cleanup crew. Turning Rab1A off reactivates mitophagy, clears excess fat, and reverses fatty liver disease in mice—offering a promising new therapeutic target for MASLD, a growing global health challenge.
