AChE inhibitory alkaloids from Coptis chinensis

Fitoterapia, 2020
Coptis chinensis is a widely used traditional Chinese herbal medicine. In this work, 6 new alkaloids (coptisine A-F, 1-6) and 26 known alkaloids (7-32) were isolated from the chloroform extract of the rhizomes of C. chinensis. Compounds 1-3 are α-carbonylated benzylisoquinolines, and 4-6 are berberidic acid type alkaloids.

Cytokine storm-calming property of the isoquinoline alkaloids in Coptis chinensis Franch

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2022
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has spread worldwide and its effects have been more devastating than any other infectious disease. Importantly, patients with severe COVID-19 show conspicuous increases in cytokines, including interleukin (IL)-6, monocyte chemoattractant protein (MCP)-1, IL-8, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, IL-1, IL-18, and IL-17, with ...

The effect of coptis chinensis on the signaling network in the squamous carcinoma cells

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioscience - Elite, 2011
The effects of Coptis chinensis on the behavior of squamous cell carcinoma have not yet been established. We examined the anticancer activity of Coptis chinensis on human squamous carcinoma cells, both in vitro and in xenografted nude mice, and applied Pathway Array Technology to understand possible involvement of signaling pathways in Coptis Chinensis

Cholinesterase inhibitory alkaloids from the rhizomes of Coptis chinensis

Bioorganic Chemistry, 2018
Coptis chinensis has been used as a medicinal herb in traditional oriental medicine. In this study, chemical investigation of a water extract of C. chinensis identified two new quaternary protoberberines (1, 2), a new tricyclic amide (3), together with five known compounds.

Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors from Rhizoma of Coptis chinensis

Planta Medica, 2001
Three protoberberine alkaloids jatrorrhizine, berberine and palmatine were isolated from the monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitory fraction of the methanol extract of Coptis chinensis rhizoma. Jatrorrhizine was shown to inhibit non-competitively both MAO-A and -B from rat brain mitochondria with the IC50 values of 4 and 62 microM, respectively.

A new pyrrolidine derivative from the rhizome of Coptis chinensis

Chemistry of Natural Compounds, 2013
A new pyrrolidine derivative, 3-hydroxy-1-(4-hydroxyphenethyl)pyrrolidine-2,5-dione (1), was isolated from the CHCl3 extract of the rhizome of Coptis chinensis Franch. Its structure was characterized by extensive spectrometric methods, including 1D, 2D NMR, and HR-ESI-MS.

Metabolism, transformation and distribution of Coptis chinensis total alkaloids in rat

China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica, 2010
To determine the pharmacokinetics, distribution and mutual transformation of the total alkaloids, jatrorrhizine, coptisine, berberine and palmatine from Coptis chinensis in rats. After the total alkaloids and berberine were fed into rats, their contents in plasma, tissues and gastrointestinal tract were determined by reversed-phase HPLC.The peak times ...

Inhibitory effect of Coptis chinensis on inflammation in LPS-induced endotoxemia

Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2013
Rhizoma coptidis (RC) has been used as a remedy for inflammation-related diseases in traditional medicine. Although it is known to have anti-inflammatory activities, its mechanism of action on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation has not yet been identified in detail. This study was designed to assess the beneficial effects of pretreatment with

Antimicrobial properties of berberines alkaloids in Coptis chinensis Franch by microcalorimetry

Journal of Biochemical and Biophysical Methods, 2008
The growth thermogenic curves of Escherichia coli (E. coli) affected by berberine, coptisine and palmatine were determined quantitatively by microcalorimetry. The power-time curves of E. coli with and without the three berberines alkaloids (BA) were acquired, meanwhile the extent and duration of inhibitory effects on the metabolism were evaluated by ...
