Feeding Value of Dwarf Corn Silage Compared with Corn and Hybrid Sorghum Silages

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1965
Abstract Twenty-seven lactating cows were used in a continuous study of 119 days to compare the feeding value of silages made from dwarf corn, hybrid forage sorghum, and corn. No significant differences in dry matter consumption, FCM production, or body weight changes were observed.

Effects of Silage pH on Voluntary Intake of Corn Silage

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1984
We evaluated effects of silage pH on corn silage intake. Sixteen Holstein heifers (292 kg) were fed control corn silage during a 2-wk preliminary period. This was followed by an 8-wk experimental period in which animals were fed silage neutralized with 0, 2, 4, or 6% sodium bicarbonate (dry matter) added prior to feeding with corresponding pH's 3.72, 4.

Effect of kneading and microwave treatment on the quality of corn straw silage

open access: yesSiliao yanjiu, 2021
In order to study the effect of microwave pretreatment on the quality of corn straw silage. Corn straw silage without microwave treatment was used as the control and corn straw silage kneaded and crushed of different length was used as the experimental ...

Corn Stover Silage versus Corn Silage for Milk Production

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1921
The information available on the feeding value of corn stover silage is limited and no experimental data has been reported comparing corn stover silage, made from cured corn stalks, with corn silage, as feeds for milk production. Rusk, of the Illinois Experiment Station, successfully maintained breeding beef cows through the winter on corn stover ...

Research progress on effect of different treatment methods on the nutritional quality of corn straw silage

open access: yesSiliao yanjiu, 2023
Corn straw contains rich nutrients such as crude fiber, crude protein, lysine, phosphorus and calcium, but the corn stem is coarse and hard, with poor palatability and low direct feeding utilization rate.

Silage of rehydrated corn grain [PDF]

open access: yesArquivo Brasileiro de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia, 2019
ABSTRACT The objective with this study was to evaluate the effect of different levels of water inclusion on the chemical composition and fermentation profiles of reconstituted corn grain silage. The experiment was carried out in a factorial arrangement in a completely randomized design, with three replicates per treatment.

Dual-Purpose Inoculants and Their Effects on Corn Silage [PDF]

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2020
This study was conducted to screen dual-purpose lactic acid bacteria (LAB) from uncontrolled farm-scale silage, and then we confirmed their effects on corn silage. The LAB were isolated from eight farm-scale corn silages, and then we screened the antifungal activity against Fusarium graminearum and the carboxylesterase activity using spectrophotometer ...
