Zebrafish cornea formation and homeostasis reveal a slow maturation process, similarly to terrestrial vertebrates’ corneas

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2022
Corneal blindness is the fourth leading cause of blindness worldwide. The superficial position of cornea on the eye makes this tissue prone to environmental aggressions, which can have a strong impact on sight.

Epigenetic Silencing of CYYR1 Promotes Lung Adenocarcinoma Progression Through TRIM21‐Dependent Regulation of HMMR Stability

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CYYR1 as an epigenetically dysregulated tumor‐suppressive factor that influences oncoprotein stability through TRIM21‐dependent HMMR regulation and reveals a potential therapeutic vulnerability in CYYR1‐deficient LUAD. The graphical illustration was created using FigDraw (www.figdraw.com).

Trachomatous trichiasis and its management in endemic countries. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
: Trichiasis is the sight-threatening consequence of conjunctival scarring in trachoma, the most common infectious cause of blindness worldwide. Trachomatous trichiasis is the result of multiple infections from childhood with Chlamydia trachomatis, which

Indications and Outcomes of Corneal Transplant Surgery in Ghana [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Background: Corneal blindness contributes to 25% of all blindness. We review corneal transplant, a common surgical remedy, in Ghana to determine indications and visual outcomes in resource-poor environments. Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study

A new vision through combined osteo-odonto-keratoplasty: A review

open access: yesMedical Journal of Dr. D.Y. Patil University, 2014
This is an extensive review of osteo-odonto-keratoplasty (OOKP) where the vision is restored by using tooth as an implant in the environment of the eye. The window of the soul is our eye and the window of the eye is cornea.

Inhibition of MEKK3 Prevents Cerebral Cavernous Malformation Progression Via Restoring Endothelial Integrity and Restricting Microglial Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, we demonstrate that aberrant MEKK3 signaling in endothelial cells and microglia drives the progression of cerebral cavernous malformations (CCMs). Furthermore, we identify DPDH as a potent small‐molecule MEKK3 inhibitor with substantial therapeutic potential for CCM treatment.

Modulation of Presynaptic Inhibitory Retinal Circuits for Retinal Ganglion Cell Neuroprotection in Glaucoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Ocular hypertension induces early hyperactivity in inner retinal inhibitory circuitry before substantial retinal ganglion cell loss. Sustained pharmacological inhibition of GABAergic/glycinergic neurotransmission and Vgat‐targeted Lin28 expression suppress this hyperactivity and improve RGC survival without reducing intraocular pressure. These findings

Meganuclease targeting HSV-1 protects against herpetic keratitis: Application to corneal transplants

open access: yesMolecular Therapy: Nucleic Acids, 2022
Herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection is a leading cause of corneal blindness. However, keratoplasty is only rarely proposed due to the high frequency of graft failure and associated recurrences.
