Simultaneous identification of tire cornering stiffnesses and vehicle center of gravity
2008 American Control Conference, 2008INS, GPS measurements are used to simultaneously estimate the location of the center of gravity of a vehicle and the tire cornering stiffnesses. The developed method uses kinematic as well as dynamic equations of a lateral vehicle model to eliminate the bias in the yaw rate and lateral acceleration measurements.

Observability matrix and parameter identification: application to vehicle tire cornering stiffness
Proceedings of the 44th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2006Tire cornering stiffness is an important parameter of vehicle modeling. Together with sideslip angle it is a transversal force governing tire-road contact, and like sideslip angle it can be used to evaluate lateral vehicle stability. This paper presents a vehicle sideslip angle observer based on a nonlinear vehicle model.

Cornering Stiffness Adaptation for Improved Side Slip Angle Observation
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2004Abstract The vehicle body side slip angle (VBSSA) represents a key variable in vehicle dynamics. It allows to assess vehicle stability in critical driving situations. As it cannot directly be measured with standard sensors it ha to be determined using a vehicle model including an observer.

Identification of Linear Tire Cornering Stiffness Using Subspace Methods
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014In this paper, subspace identification methods are proposed to estimate the linear tire cornering stiffness, which are only based on the road tests data without any prior knowledge. This kind of data-driven method has strong robustness. In order to validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the algorithms, a series of standard road tests are carried

The Effects of Tire Cornering Stiffness on Vehicle Linear Handling Performance
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1995<div class="htmlview paragraph">In this paper, the effects of tire cornering stiffness on vehicle frequency responses have been investigated. The high speed force and moment test data of four different groups of tires were collected. These tires had different constructions and wide ranges of cornering stiffness.

Nonlinear Tire Cornering Stiffness Observer for a Double Steering Off-Road Mobile Robot
2019 International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA), 2019Path tracking controllers for an autonomous vehicle are often designed by using either a dynamic model or a kinematic one and some models are related to wheel-ground contact, that makes the efficiency of the controller highly dependent on the ground parameters estimation, especially for off-road mobile robots intended to navigate in open environments ...

Evaluation of a Betaless Instantaneous Cornering Stiffness estimation scheme for electric vehicles
2012 9th France-Japan & 7th Europe-Asia Congress on Mechatronics (MECATRONICS) / 13th Int'l Workshop on Research and Education in Mechatronics (REM), 2012This contribution evaluates a new Beta-less Instantaneous Cornering Stiffness (ICS) estimation scheme. It relies on the availability of the lateral tire forces measurement which in near future can be realized with economic (low cost) sensors. The estimation is only available if the change in the tire slip angle is profound enough as it is not the case ...

The Roles of Front and Rear Cornering Stiffness in Vehicle Directional Dynamics
SAE International Journal of Passenger Cars - Mechanical Systems, 2016<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">The transfer functions between the variables in linear bicycle models of four wheel automobiles, the input to which is steering angle, were examined. The modal response transfer functions between all of the motion outputs, with the exception of front tire slip angle, were found ...
