ANK1 and EPB41 Variants and The Risk of Glucocorticoid‐Induced Osteonecrosis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, Volume 78, Issue 11, Page 2378-2389, November 2026.
Objective Steroid‐induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head (SONFH) is a refractory skeletal disorder influenced by genetic and environmental factors. However, conclusive pathogenic genetic evidence remains elusive due to the limited exploration of rare damaging variants. In this study, we aimed to identify rare variants associated with SONFH.

Exercise‐Based Management of Diabetic Cardiomyopathy: Preclinical Mechanisms, Clinical Evidence, and Translational Strategies

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes, Volume 18, Issue 11, November 2026.
Exercise may mitigate diabetic cardiomyopathy by improving mitochondrial metabolism, redox balance, calcium handling, and inflammatory‐fibrotic remodeling. Translation into clinical practice requires phenotype‐ and risk‐adapted exercise prescriptions, standardized dose reporting, and multimodal monitoring to define safety, efficacy, and long‐term ...

Coronary Microcirculation: The Next Frontier in the Management of STEMI

open access: yes, 2023
Although the widespread adoption of timely invasive reperfusion strategies over the last two decades has significantly improved the prognosis of patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), up to half of patients after ...

Association between insulin resistance and coronary microcirculatory function and adverse cardiovascular events after PCI in non-diabetic STEMI patients

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine
ObjectiveHyperglycemia and insulin resistance (IR) are common in patients with acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). However, the impact of IR on coronary microcirculatory function in non-diabetic STEMI patients remains unclear.

15O‐water PET‐detected myocardial ischaemia and CT‐derived FFR: Predicting the functional significance of anatomical stenosis

open access: yesClinical Physiology and Functional Imaging, Volume 46, Issue 6, November 2026.
Abstract Aims Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. While coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) provides anatomical assessment of coronary stenoses, its ability to determine their functional significance is limited. Computed tomography‐derived fractional flow reserve (CT‐FFR) has emerged as a non‐

Coronary microcirculatory dysfunction after percutaneous coronary intervention: pathogenesis, diagnosis, and therapeutic strategies

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine
Coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD) can lead to a variety of severe adverse cardiovascular events. CMD represents the primary cause of recurrent angina pectoris following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

Association of Lipid Ratios With Cardiovascular Outcomes in Type 2 Diabetes: A Population Cohort Study

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 28, Issue 11, Page 10236-10247, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Aims To identify low‐ and high‐risk intervals for major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and all‐cause mortality according to lipid ratios in adults with Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), stratified by sex. Materials and Methods We used primary care electronic health records from the Spanish National Health Service including 303 199 adults ...

Prognostic Value and Population Attributable Fraction of Cardio‐Ankle Vascular Index for Mortality in the General Population

open access: yesGeriatrics &Gerontology International, Volume 26, Issue 11, November 2026.
This 12.7‐year prospective study of 5,994 adults evaluated the cardio‐ankle vascular index (CAVI) as a mortality predictor. Compared to normal CAVI (< 8.0), elevated CAVI (≥ 9.0) significantly increased the risk for all‐cause mortality (HR: 1.38; PAF: 8.9%).

The Role of Circulating Biomarkers in Patients with Coronary Microvascular Disease

open access: yesBiomolecules
Coronary microvascular disease (CMD) comprises a spectrum of conditions characterized by the functional and structural abnormalities of coronary microcirculation, affecting vessels typically smaller than 500 μm.

Influence of age on the development of stress hyperglycemia during first‐onset ST‐elevation myocardial infarction

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, Volume 17, Issue 11, Page 1997-2008, November 2026.
Among 8,779 non‐diabetic patients with first‐onset STEMI, older age was associated with a higher likelihood of stress hyperglycemia. However, the excess mortality risk associated with stress hyperglycemia was greatest in younger patients and attenuated with advancing age, highlighting the possibility of age‐dependent prognostic significance.
