Inheritance of resistance to the cowpea aphid in cowpea

Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1987
Inheritance of resistance to cowpea aphid, Aphis craccivora Koch, in three resistant cultivars of cowpea, Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp, was studied. The parents, F1 and F2 population were grown in an insect-proof screenhouse. Each 3-day-old seedling was infested with 10 apterous adult aphids. Seedling reaction was recorded when the susceptible check was

The ultrastructural appearance of cowpea mosaic virus in cowpea

Journal of Ultrastructure Research, 1975
Cowpea mosaic virions (CPMV) were present in large numbers in cowpea tissue, both in dispersed and crystalline aggregates. Virion aggregates were found after buffered glutaraldehyde or chromate fixation at pH 7.2. Five to 10 min in 5% glutaraldehyde was sufficient for good fixation and yielded sections of greater electron-density than prolonged ...

Infection of cowpea mesophyll protoplasts with cowpea mosaic virus

Virology, 1975
Mesophyll protoplasts were isolated from the primary leaves of cowpeas by a one-step procedure using a mixture of Macerozyme and Cellulase. The protoplasts were inoculated with cowpea mosaic virus and virus multiplication was shown to occur by measuring the virus infectivity at various times after inoculation.

Crystalline cowpea mosaic virus

Virology, 1980
Crystals of Cowpea mosaic virus displaying a high degree of order have been grown in two different forms. Hexagonal crystals, space group P6(1)22 or P6(5)22 with a = 450 A and c = 1038 A containing six virus particles per cell, have been grown in sodium citrate buffer at pH 4.9. Each particle has four nearest neighbors at 284 A.

Cowpea Trypsin Inhibitor and Resistance to Cowpea Weevil (Coleoptera: Bruchidae) in Cowpea Variety ‘TVu 2027’

Environmental Entomology, 1994
Seeds of cowpea, Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp, line ‘TVu 2027’ are moderately resistant to the cowpea weevil, Callosobruchus maculatus (F.). C. maculatus larvae exhibit higher mortality and take longer to develop in ‘TVu 2027’ than in more susceptible seeds. Claims have been made (Gatehouse, A.M.R., J. A. Gatehouse, P. Dobie, A. M.

Complete genome sequences of cowpea polerovirus 1 and cowpea polerovirus 2 infecting cowpea plants in Burkina Faso

Archives of Virology, 2017
The full-length genome sequences of two novel poleroviruses found infecting cowpea plants, cowpea polerovirus 1 (CPPV1) and cowpea polerovirus 2 (CPPV2), were determined using overlapping RT-PCR and RACE-PCR. Whereas the 5845-nt CPPV1 genome was most similar to chickpea chlorotic stunt virus (73% identity), the 5945-nt CPPV2 genome was most similar to ...

Relationship of Cowpea Seed-Part Infection and Seed Transmission of Blackeye Cowpea Mosaic Potyvirus in Cowpea

Plant Disease, 1993
Blackeye cowpea mosaic potyvirus (BICMV) was seedborne in four cowpea seed lots (two genotypes) at incidences of 0.4-50%. Fully mature seeds were hydrated and separated into testae and embryos. Each embryo was separated further into two cotyledons and the embryo axis.
