Indigenous cowpea production and protection practices in Benin [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Tropical Insect Science, 2001
A survey involving more than 129 farmers was carried out in 1998 and 1999 in Oueme, Benin, to investigate the importance of pests and diseases as constraints to cowpea (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.) production. Results indicated that in the Oueme valley Sclerotium rolfsii Sacc. and Aphis craccivora Koch are specific concerns.

Temperature: A major climatic determinant of cowpea production

open access: yesActa Scientiarum. Agronomy, 2022
Cowpea planting season is crucial for high yield and should comprise the period of the year that warrants the best climatic conditions for cowpea cultivation. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of water availability and temperature on the performance of cowpea cultivars. A greenhouse experiment was conducted using a 4 × 2 ×

Neurolathyrism in Sub‐Saharan Africa—Assessing the Neurotoxic Risks of Lathyrus sativus Amid Drought and Food Security Challenges

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
Representation of grass pea consumption in drought‐stricken sub‐Saharan Africa sustains nutrition, but excess β‐ODAP exposure due to multiple reasons triggers neurolathyrism, a progressive neurotoxic disorder. ABSTRACT Neurolathyrism is a progressive motor neuron disease due to the consumption of Lathyrus sativus (grass pea) over long periods.
