Design parameters of steel fiber concrete beams

open access: yesMagazine of Civil Engineering, 2021
In the study of steel fiber concrete beams, there are many design parameters that affecting stress-strain state, cracks formation and cracks development, etc. in beams.

Simulation of Near-Tip Crack Behaviour and Its Correlation to Fatigue Crack Growth with a Modified Strip-Yield Model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A modified strip-yield model has been developed to simulate the plasticity-induced crack closure under the constant amplitude (CA) and a single overload loading conditions.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Phase field modeling of quasi-static and dynamic crack propagation: COMSOL implementation and case studies [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Engineering Software, 2018
The phase-field model (PFM) represents the crack geometry in a diffusive way without introducing sharp discontinuities. This feature enables PFM to effectively model crack propagation compared with numerical methods based on discrete crack model ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

A three-dimensional multiscale model of intergranular hydrogen-assisted cracking [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We present a three-dimensional model of intergranular hydrogen-embrittlement (HE) that accounts for: (i) the degradation of grain-boundary strength that arises from hydrogen coverage; (ii) grain-boundary diffusion of hydrogen; and (iii) a continuum model

Phase field modelling of crack propagation, branching and coalescence in rocks [PDF]

open access: yesTheoretical and applied fracture mechanics (Print), 2018
We present a phase field model (PFM) for simulating complex crack patterns including crack propagation, branching and coalescence in rock. The phase field model is implemented in COMSOL and is based on the strain decomposition for the elastic energy ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Dynamics and Instabilities of Planar Tensile Cracks in Heterogeneous Media

open access: yes, 1997
The dynamics of tensile crack fronts restricted to advance in a plane are studied. In an ideal linear elastic medium, a propagating mode along the crack front with a velocity slightly less than the Rayleigh wave velocity, is found to exist.
