Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

A study of fatigue crack propagation in quenched and tempered and controlled rolled HSLA steels. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
A range of HSLA steels reflecting the two major processing routes, quench and tempering and controlled rolling, have been tested in fatigue to assess their potential wider application in the offshore Industry.

Effect of Crack Closure on Permeability in Abutment Pressure Area

open access: yesMeikuang Anquan, 2020
The mechanical model of crack closure was established, and the zone of crack closure was calculated combining with the abutment pressure formula.

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

The effect of prestressing force on natural frequencies of concrete beams – A numerical validation of existing experiments by modelling shrinkage crack closure

open access: yesJournal of Sound and Vibration, 2019
This paper investigates the effect of prestressing force on the natural frequencies of reinforced concrete beams. From a purely theoretical point of view, such effects in different prestressing conditions appear to involve no ambiguity; however, in ...

Environmentally-assisted Fatigue Crack Growth in AA7050-T73511 Al Alloy and AA2050-T84 Al-Cu-Li Alloy [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2015
The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the effect of low temperature and saline environment on the fatigue crack growth behavior of the AA7050-T7451 Al alloy and the recently developed AA2050-T Al-Cu-Li alloy.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Numerical Simulation of the Effect of Pre-Strain on Fatigue Crack Growth in AA2024-T351

open access: yesMetals
The objective here is to study the effect of pre-strain on fatigue crack growth (FCG) in 2024-T351 aluminum alloy. Three pre-strain conditions were considered: without pre-strain, compressive and tensile permanent pre-strains of 4%.

A Numerical Study of the Effect of Isotropic Hardening Parameters on Mode I Fatigue Crack Growth

open access: yesMetals, 2020
The consideration of plastic crack tip opening displacement (CTOD, δp), as a crack driving force has given us the opportunity to predict fatigue crack growth (FCG) rate numerically, and, therefore, to develop parametric studies focused on the effect
