AbstractA new CTOD calculation method is investigated in this study, considering the FPZ and the effective Young’s modulus. The calculated CTOD values from four theoretical models are compared with the measured CTOD values from the three-point beam experiments, and the differences between them are analyzed.

We measured two values of fracture toughness for X65 steel in air (KQ of 369 and 487 MPa√m$\sqrt{} \text{m}$) and two essentially American Society for Testing of Materials–valid values of fracture toughness of KJ1C of 150 and 189 MPa√m$\sqrt{} \text{m}$ for X65 subjected to in situ hydrogen charging thought to be equivalent to a hydrogen gas pressure ...

In present research the fracture behavior of carbon fabric‐epoxy composites was evaluated with the addition of 0.1, 0.2, 0.5, and 0.75 weight percentages of carbon nano tubes at different temperatures. Abstract In present research the fracture behavior of carbon fabric‐epoxy composites (CE composites) was evaluated with the addition of 0.1, 0.2, 0.5 ...

The Breakdown of Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics near the Tip of a Rapid Crack
We present high resolution measurements of the displacement and strain fields near the tip of a dynamic (Mode I) crack. The experiments are performed on polyacrylamide gels, brittle elastomers whose fracture dynamics mirror those of typical brittle ...

Establishing the fiber bridging law by an inverse analysis approach [PDF]
A method for establishing the relationship between stress and crack face opening for steel fiber–reinforced concrete (SFRC) beams under three-point loading was proposed using inverse analysis.

Slip‐resistant connections subjected to freeze‐thaw cycles
Abstract There are many examples of steel structures subjected to severe environmental conditions with bolted connections directly exposed to climatic agents such as steel bridges, mining transfer towers, wind towers etc. In this experimental research, non‐slip joints with M16 and M20 bolts have been studied. The specimens were subjected to fourteen 12

Implementation of Recent Advances in Fracture Toughness Testing to Investigate Tearing Resistance of Heat-Resistant Steel 14MoV6-3 [PDF]
Since WWII, progress has been made in understanding how materials fail and how to prevent such failures. In this work, the newly standardized Single Edge Notch Tension (SENT) specimen is used to assess the ductile tearing resistance of 14MoV-3 steel ...

The 1/r singularity in weakly nonlinear fracture mechanics
Material failure by crack propagation essentially involves a concentration of large displacement-gradients near a crack's tip, even at scales where no irreversible deformation and energy dissipation occurs. This physical situation provides the motivation
