The Mechanism of Critical Strain of Serrated Yielding in Strain Rate Domain

open access: yesChinese Physics Letters, 2016
The mechanism of the critical strain of serrated yielding is studied via tension tests at various strain rates. Before the critical strain, it is deduced that dislocations are not pinned at high strain rates, and dislocations at low strain rates are pinned but cannot escape.

Effectiveness of Critical-Strain-Based Methodology Considering Elastic Mode Vibration of Mechanical Housing of Electronics

open access: yesAerospace, 2023
A critical-strain-based methodology was proposed to overcome the theoretical limitations of Steinberg’s method, and its effectiveness was experimentally verified through fatigue tests of ball grid arrays, column grid arrays, and lead-type specimens on ...

Numerical simulation on strain capacity of welding joint of X80 pipeline with root welding crack

open access: yesYou-qi chuyun, 2022
Automatic welding technology is widely used in the field welding of large-diameter and high-grade steel pipelines in China. Welding defects such as misalignment and cracks caused by various factors have seriously affected the deformation and bearing ...

Critical Infrastructures: Reliability, Resilience and Wastage

open access: yesInfrastructures, 2022
By 2050, according to the UN medium forecast, 68.6% of the world’s population will live in cities. This growth will place a strain on critical infrastructure distribution networks, which already operate in a state that is complex and intertwined within ...

Prediction of steel flow stresses under hot working conditions

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2005
An austenitic stainless steel was deformed in torsion over a temperature range of 900-1200 °C using strain rates of 1, 5 and 10 s-1. The stress vs. strain curves determined were corrected for deformation heating and the flow stress was found to rise ...

A critical assessment of theories of strain gradient plasticity [PDF]

open access: yesActa Materialia, 2009
Theories to extend plasticity to the micron scale have been in existence for over a decade, complemented by a growing body of experimental data. Here, materials and mechanics aspects of two prominent strain gradient theories of plasticity, due to Nix and Gao and to Fleck and Hutchinson, are assessed within the context of simple bending.

Strain effects on borophene: ideal strength, negative Possion’s ratio and phonon instability

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2016
Very recently, two-dimensional (2D) boron sheets (borophene) with rectangular structures were grown successfully on single crystal Ag(111) substrates (Mannix et al 2015 Science http://dx.doi.org/10.1126/science.aad1080 350 http://dx.doi.org/10.1126 ...

Criticality in Vibrated Frictional Flows at a Finite Strain Rate [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2016
We evidence critical fluctuations in the strain-rate of granular flows that are weakly vibrated. Strikingly, the critical point arises at {\em finite} values of the mean strain rate and vibration strength, far away from the yielding critical point at zero flow rate.

Flow Behavior and Dynamic Recrystallization of BT25y Titanium Alloy During Hot Deformation

open access: yesHigh Temperature Materials and Processes, 2018
The high-temperature plastic deformation and dynamic recrystallization behavior of BT25y alloy were investigated within the deformation temperatures of 1,213–1,293 K and strain rates of 0.001–1.0 s–1 on a Gleeble-1500 thermo-mechanical simulator. Results
