High-Temperature Mechanical Properties and the Portevin–Le Chatelier Effect for Wire Arc Additively Manufactured Inconel 718 Superalloy

open access: yesMetals
In this study, high-temperature uniaxial tensile tests were performed on IN718 superalloy samples fabricated using Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) and compared to wrought IN718 superalloy samples.

A critical state based viscoplastic model for crushable granular materials

open access: yesSoils and Foundations, 2022
Experimental studies have confirmed that the critical state of a granular material varies with alteration in granular fabric, particle shape and grain size.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Temperature and strain scaling laws for the critical current density in Nb(_3)Sn and Nb(_3)Al conductors in high magnetic fields [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Detailed, accurate measurements of critical current density and resistivity to determine the upper critical field have been made on a technological NbsAl conductor in magnetic fields up to 15 T, temperatures from 4.2 K up to the critical temperature and ...

Strain-Driven Faceting of Graphene-Catalyst Interfaces

open access: yes, 2023
The interfacial interaction of 2D materials with the substrate leads to striking surface faceting affecting its electronic properties. Here, we quantitatively study the orientation-dependent facet topographies observed on the catalyst under graphene ...

Precursory accelerated Benioff strain in the Aegean area

open access: yesAnnals of Geophysics, 2001
Accelerating seismic crustal deformation due to the occurrence of intermediate magnitude earthquakes leading to the generation of a mainshock has recently been considered a critical phenomenon.

Assessment of the OTEC cold water pipe design under bending loading: A benchmarking and parametric study using finite element approach

open access: yesJournal of the Mechanical Behavior of Materials, 2023
Ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) is a floating platform that generates electricity from seawater heat. The cold water pipe (CWP) used in OTEC has a length of 1,000 m and a diameter of 10 m, making it susceptible to bending loads from ocean currents.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
