GENETICAL ASPECTS OF SELF‐ AND CROSS‐STERILITY

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, 1923
With the exception of the war period, the genetical and physiological aspects of self-sterility in plants have been under investigation at the Bussey Institution of Harvard University for the last twelve years; and, as often is the case with material worked intensively, the experiments have opened up so many new problems that they will probably be ...

Targeted metabolomics reveals novel diagnostic biomarkers for colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed targeted metabolomic profiling to identify 302 distinct metabolites present in platelet‐rich plasma (PRP), revealing aberrant metabolic profiles amongst individuals diagnosed with colorectal cancer (CRC). Compared to carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and cancer antigen 19‐9 (CA199), our metabolite panel showed improved sensitivity ...

Genetic evaluation of Ethiopian Boran cattle and their crosses with Holstein Friesian in central Ethiopia: milk production traits

open access: yesAnimal, 2009
Breed additive and non-additive effects, and genetic parameters of lactation milk yield (LYD), 305-day milk yield (305YD), lactation length (LL), milk yield per day of lactation (DM) and lifetime milk yield (LTYD) were estimated in Ethiopian Boran cattle

Identification of potential soybean crosses for grain yield in the F2 generation

open access: yesAgrarian, 2019
The diallel schemes comprise a powerful strategy for the genetic study of the characters and the ability to match the parents, as well as to obtain information at the different stages of a genetic breeding program involving artificial hybridizations.

INTERFERENCE IN GENETIC CROSSING OVER AND CHROMOSOME MAPPING

open access: yesGenetics, 1979
ABSTRACT This paper proposes a general model for interference in genetic crossing over. The model assumes serial Occurrence of chiasmata, visualized as a renewal process along the paired (or pairing) chromosomes. This process is described as an underlying Poisson process in which the Ist, n + 1th, 2n + 1th, etc., events are to be ...

Transfer of recessive skr crossability trait into well-adapted French wheat cultivar Barok through marker-assisted backcrossing method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In order to increase genetic diversity in cereals, interspecific or even intergeneric crosses are worthwhile, especially wheat by rye crosses for triticale production. However, these crosses often fail due to inhibiting genes.

Polyfunctional CD8+CD226+RUNX2hi effector T cells are diminished in advanced stages of chronic lymphocytic leukemia

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CD226+CD8+ T cells express elevated levels of RUNX2, exhibit higher proliferation capacity, cytokines and cytolytic molecules expression, and migratory capacity. In contrast, CD226−CD8+ T cells display an exhausted phenotype associated with the increased expression of co‐inhibitory receptors and impaired effector functions.

A cytological demonstration of "genetic" crossing-over [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series B, Containing Papers of a Biological Character, 1930
A stage in meiosis where the paired chromosomes form loops, coming together at points distributed at random along their length, was first described by Rückert (1892) inPristiurus. These points we now recognise in suitable material as exchanges of partner amongst the four pairing half-chromosomes.

Cystatin A promotes the antitumor activity of T helper type 1 cells and dendritic cells in murine models of pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a disease with very poor prognosis due to therapeutic limitations. We investigated the antitumor effects of cystatin A (CSTA) in PDAC murine models. We are first to confirm that CSTA enhances T helper type 1‐mediated antitumor effects through promotion of dendritic cells and M1 macrophage activity. CSTA can be

The effect of temperature on seed quality and quantity in crosses between European (Populus tremula) and hybrid aspens (P. tremula x P. tremuloides)

open access: yesSilva Fennica, 2012
Hybrid aspen (Populus tremula L. Populus tremuloides Michx.) plantations are expanding in Fennoscandia and the Baltic countries; however, the possible effects of plantations on the native European aspen (P.
