Nonclassical 2-photon interference with separate intrinsically narrowband fibre sources

open access: yes, 2009
In this paper, we demonstrate a source of photon pairs based on four-wave-mixing in photonic crystal fibres. Careful engineering of the phase matching conditions in the fibres enables us to create photon pairs at 597 nm and 860 nm in an intrinsically ...

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

Author Correction: Liquid crystal elastomer coatings with programmed response of surface profile

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
The original version of this Article contained errors in Figs. 1a, 2a, 3a, and 4b, in which the units on the scale bars incorrectly read ‘µm’ rather than the correct ‘nm.’ This has been corrected in both the PDF and HTML versions of the Article.

Halogen Bonding in Crystal Engineering [PDF]

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section A Foundations of Crystallography, 2005
The term halogen bonding encompasses any non-covalent interaction involving halogens as electrophilic species. High strength and directionality are the remarkable features of halogen bonding that fully justify its use as a primary intermolecular interaction to dictate molecular self-assembly processes.

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Abnormal lattice occupation of Mo and related polarons in LiNbO3: Hybrid density functional theory investigation

open access: yesJournal of Materiomics, 2020
Studies have reported that Mo-doped LiNbO3 exhibits excellent photorefractive performance, which may be attributed to the Mo abnormally occupation in Nb sites (MoNb) and the MoNb photorefractive centres.

Curvature-driven stability of defects in nematic textures over spherical disks

open access: yes, 2017
Stabilizing defects in liquid-crystal systems is crucial for many physical processes and applications ranging from functionalizing liquid-crystal textures to recently reported command of chaotic behaviors of active matters.

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

Tailoring of phononic band structures in colloidal crystals

open access: yes, 2007
We report an experimental study of the elastic properties of a two-dimensional (2D) colloidal crystal subjected to light-induced substrate potentials. In agreement with recent theoretical predictions [H.H. von Gruenberg and J. Baumgartl, Phys. Rev. E 75,
