Controlling crystal orientation of Ni-based single crystal superalloy by inclined seeding method
An inclined seeding method for Ni-based single crystal superalloy with a specific orientation is presented. The evolution of solidification microstructure and its mechanism are studied during the preparation of single crystals by this method through ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Probing single crystal orientation by X-ray diffraction for nickel-based superalloys
The deviation angles of Ni-based single crystal superalloys are investigated by two techniques of rotating orientation X-ray diffraction (RO-XRD) and back-reflection Laue X-ray diffraction (BRL-XRD).

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Nematic liquid crystal dynamics under applied electric fields
In this paper we investigate the dynamics of liquid crystal textures in a two-dimensional nematic under applied electric fields, using numerical simulations performed using a publicly available LIquid CRystal Algorithm (LICRA) developed by the authors ...

Orientable and non‐orientable director fields for liquid crystals [PDF]
AbstractUniaxial nematic liquid crystals are often modelled using the Oseen‐Frank theory, in which the mean orientation of the rodlike molecules is described through a unit vector field n. This theory has the apparent drawback that it does not respect the head‐to‐tail symmetry in which n should be equivalent to −n; that is, instead of n taking values ...
