Grain Boundary Scars and Spherical Crystallography

open access: yes, 2003
We describe experimental investigations of the structure of two-dimensional spherical crystals. The crystals, formed by beads self-assembled on water droplets in oil, serve as model systems for exploring very general theories about the minimum energy ...

Investigation of Iron‐Aluminide‐Like Phase Composition in Complex Concentrated Fe32Cu12Ni11Ti16Al29 Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work reveals the phase composition and quantitative morphology analysis of precipitation‐hardened Fe32Cu12Ni11Ti16Al29 complex‐concentrated alloy. The precipitates are shown to have a high coherency. Morphology transition between sphere, cuboidal, and elongated morphology is observed. Finally, the overaging behavior is captured using microhardness.

Characterization of Aptamer-Protein Complexes by X-ray Crystallography and Alternative Approaches [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Aptamers are oligonucleotide ligands, either RNA or ssDNA, selected for high-affinity binding to molecular targets, such as small organic molecules, proteins or whole microorganisms.

Namdinator – automatic molecular dynamics flexible fitting of structural models into cryo-EM and crystallography experimental maps

open access: yesIUCrJ, 2019
Model building into experimental maps is a key element of structural biology, but can be both time consuming and error prone for low-resolution maps.

Reactive Interaction and Wetting of Fe‐ and Mn‐Containing, Secondary AlSi Alloys with Manganese Oxide Ceramic Filter Material for Fe Removal

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Fe‐ and Mn‐containing AlSi alloys undergo aluminothermic reaction with Mn oxide in sessile‐drop and crucible experiments forming poor‐wetting Al2O3 while Mn enriches in the alloy. Primary Fe‐containing particles are preferentially attached to the Mn oxide.

The first mononuclear PtIII complex. Molecular structures of (NBu4)[PtIII(C6Cl5)4] and of its parent compound {NBu4}2[PtII(C6Cl5)4]·2CH2Cl2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
(NBu4)[PtIII(C6Cl5)4], fully characterized by crystallographic, spectral, and magnetic measurements has been isolated by oxidation with halogens or TICl3 of the parent compound (NBu4)2[PtII(C6CL5)4], which has also been analysed by X-ray ...

Crystallography of Representative MOFs Based on Pillared Cyanonickelate (PICNIC) Architecture

open access: yesCrystals, 2016
The pillared layer motif is a commonly used route to porous coordination polymers or metal organic frameworks (MOFs). Materials based on the pillared cyano-bridged architecture, [Ni’(L)Ni(CN)4]n (L = pillar organic ligands), also known as PICNICs, have ...

The dependence of the biodegradable ZX10 alloy corrosion process on the structural factors and local pH level

open access: yesFrontier Materials & Technologies, 2023
Magnesium biodegradable alloys are a promising material for self-dissolving surgical implants. Magnesium is known to be sensitive to electrochemical corrosion due to the galvanic effect between the matrix and particles of secondary phases and inclusions.

Direct Electron Detection Electron Energy‐Loss Spectroscopy: Speeding Up 2D Analytical In Situ Transmission Electron Microscopy for Aluminum Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Scanning transmission electron microscopy imaging techniques are an essential tool to document dynamic developments, such as precipitation in aluminum alloys, during in situ heating experiments using transmission electron microscopy. However, in many cases, chemical information is required to interpret complex nanoscale processes.
