Insightful Improvement in the Design of Potent Uropathogenic E. coli FimH Antagonists

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2023
Selective antiadhesion antagonists of Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) type-1 Fimbrial adhesin (FimH) are attractive alternatives for antibiotic therapies and prophylaxes against acute or recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) caused by UPECs.

Enhancing Optoelectronic Properties in Phthalocyanine‐Based SURMOFs: Synthesis of ABAB Linkers by Avoiding Statistical Condensation with Tailored Building Blocks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel phthalocyanine (PC)‐based metal–organic framework (MOFs) is synthesized using ditopic PC linkers obtained through regioselective statistical condensation. The resulting MOF exhibits significant improvements in electronic absorption, thereby enhancing the material's performance in light harvesting and energy conversion.

GESUS, an Interactive Computer Application for Teaching and Learning the Space Groups of Symmetry

open access: yesEducation Sciences, 2022
This paper describes a digital application designed for learning Space Groups of Symmetry (SGS). It teaches how to recognize the operations performed by the symmetry elements, both point (or 2D) operators (proper and improper rotations, including ...

Excited State Modulation in Carbene‐Metal‐Amides to Design Fast and Bright Blue Delayed Fluorescence

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Gold‐centered carbene‐metal amide (CMA) materials with carbonyl‐group substitution on the amide donor ligand. Molecular design ensures that the charge transfer (CT) state is lower in energy than the locally excited (3LE) states. The energy difference between CT and LE states controls the rate of the delayed fluorescence.

Mapping the DNA-Binding Motif of Scabin Toxin, a Guanine Modifying Enzyme from Streptomyces scabies

open access: yesToxins, 2021
Scabin is a mono-ADP-ribosyltransferase toxin/enzyme and possible virulence factor produced by the agriculture pathogen, Streptomyces scabies. Recently, molecular dynamic approaches and MD simulations revealed its interaction with both NAD+ and DNA ...

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Smart Nanogels as Enzyme‐Driven Nanomotors for Navigating Viscous Physiological Barriers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Two families of urease‐powered nanomotors (NMs), with and without a p‐(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (p‐HEMA) shell, have been successfully prepared. Both types exhibit effective motion in highly viscous synovial fluid media at low urea concentrations (25 mM).
