This study reveals the genetic and molecular mechanisms controlling the general trade‐off between phenotypic mean and plasticity of grain chalkiness in rice and identifies two major external drivers (high temperature and wide grain) and a natural major module (GCP6‐MPC5) that control this trade‐off.

Description of three new arctic bramble cultivars and proposal for cultivar identification [PDF]
Morphological and yield differences between five arctic bramble (Rubus arcticus L.) strains and the cultivars Pima and Mespi were studied at two locations during the growing season 1994. Morphological observations and measurements were made on canes, leaves, flowers and berries, adapting the UPOV (Union pour la Protection des Obtentions Vegetales ...

Post‐Translational Modifications of TOE3 Regulate Antiviral Defense in Tobacco
CK2αL phosphorylates TOE3 and enhances its stability, while FBXL1 promotes the ubiquitination‐degradation of TOE3 via the 26S proteasome. Compared to CK2αL‐phosphorylated TOE3, nonphosphorylated TOE3 shows a much higher affinity for FBXL1 and is more susceptible to ubiquitination‐degradation, thus facilitating viral infection. The regulatory mechanisms

Prediction of rice texture from starch profiles measured using high-performance liquid chromatography [PDF]
Starch determines a large proportion of the textural properties of cooked rice. The amylose: amylopectin ratio plays a significant role in the functionality of native starch.

Effect of the Strawberry Genotype, Cultivation and Processing on the Fra a 1 Allergen Content [PDF]
Birch pollen allergic patients show cross-reactivity to vegetables and fruits, including strawberries (Fragaria × ananassa). The objective of this study was to quantify the level of the Fra a 1 protein, a Bet v 1-homologous protein in strawberry fruits

BRS Marciana barley bred by Embrapa Trigo (Wheat) is an early maturing, two-rowed spring barley registeredin 2005 for commercial production in Southern Brazil. It combines good biomass and grain yield potential and diseaseresistance (to net blotch, powdery mildew, leaf rust). It is well-adapted to all major barley production regions of southernBrazil.

Depth‐Dependence Changes in Soil Stoichiometry in China's Croplands Over the Past Four Decades
This study reveals depth‐dependent changes in soil C:N:P ratios across Chinese croplands over four decades. Changes in stoichiometry vary markedly between topsoil and subsoil, with initial soil C:N:P ratios playing a key role in determining their trajectories.
