MICRO-TEST SYSTEM FOR RAPID ISOLATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF CANDIDA SPECIES IN URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS

open access: yesAnthropological Researches and Studies, 2017
Objectives. We tried to create a culture medium and a method used to rapidly isolate and identify the yeasts of Candida genus. Material and Methods. The isolation and identification of Candida genus yeasts have been accomplished using the micro-test ...

Improved mass cultivation of the marine diatom Chaetoceros calcitrans for shellfish hatcheries : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Philosophy in Biotechnology at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
A medium for the optimal growth of Chaetoceros calcitrans in batch and continuous culture systems was developed. A method was developed for continuous culture of C. calcitrans that was free from detrimental infection by bacteria.

Comparison of LPS-stimulated release of cytokines in punch versus transwell tissue culture systems of human gestational membranes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background Cytokine signaling within the amnionic, chorionic and decidual extraplacental gestational membranes plays an important role in membrane rupture and the timing of birth.

The carboxylate “gripper” of the substrate is critical for C‐4 stereo‐inversion by UDP‐glucuronic acid 4‐epimerase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
UDP‐glucuronic acid 4‐epimerase (UGAepi) catalyzes NAD+‐dependent interconversion of UDP‐glucuronic acid (UDP‐GlcA) and UDP‐galacturonic acid (UDP‐GalA) via C4‐oxidation, 4‐keto‐intermediate rotation, and C4‐reduction. Here, Borg et al. examined the role of the substrate's carboxylate group in the enzymic mechanism by analyzing NADH‐dependent reduction

Fecal culture and two fecal-PCR methods for the diagnosis of Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis in a seropositive herd

open access: yesRevista Colombiana de Ciencias Pecuarias, 2017
Background: paratuberculosis is a slow-developing infectious disease, characterized by chronic granulomatous enterocolitis. This disease has a variable incubation period from 6 months to over 15 years, and is caused by Mycobacterium avium subsp ...

The growth of plant embryos in vitro. Preliminary experiments on the role of accessory substances [PDF]

open access: yes, 1937
The aseptic culture of plant embryos isolated from the seed dates back to the work of Brown and Morris,(1) Hannig(2) and Dietrich.(3) More recent contributions to our knowledge concerning the culture in vitro of excised embryos have been made by Tukey,(4)

The thioredoxin‐like and one glutaredoxin domain are required to rescue the iron‐starvation phenotype of HeLa GLRX3 knock out cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Glutaredoxin (Grx) 3 proteins contain a thioredoxin domain and one to three class II Grx domains. These proteins play a crucial role in iron homeostasis in eukaryotic cells. In human Grx3, at least one of the two Grx domains, together with the thioredoxin domain, is essential for its function in iron metabolism.

Bta-miR-10b secreted by bovine embryos negatively impacts preimplantation embryo quality [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In a previous study, we found miR-10b to be more abundant in a conditioned culture medium of degenerate embryos compared to that of blastocysts. Here, we show that miR-10b mimics added to the culture medium can be taken up by embryos. This uptake results
