Update on chronic wasting disease (CWD) III [PDF]

open access: yesEFSA Journal, 2019
The European Commission asked EFSA for a Scientific Opinion: to revise the state of knowledge about the differences between the chronic wasting disease (CWD) strains found in North America (NA) and Europe and within Europe; to review new scientific evidence on the zoonotic potential of CWD and to provide recommendations to address the potential risks ...

Evidence for distinct chronic wasting disease (CWD) strains in experimental CWD in ferrets

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 2012
Chronic wasting disease (CWD) is an evolving prion disease of cervids (deer, elk and moose) that has been recognized in North America and Korea. Infection of non-cervid reservoir or transport species in nature is not reported. However, the ferret (Mustela putorius furo) is susceptible to CWD after experimental inoculation.

Changes in wood density, biomass, and carbon and nitrogen storage of Beech and Hornbeam CWD based on different decay grade in Khairud forest of Nowshahr [PDF]

open access: yesمجله جنگل ایران, 2021
Coarse woody debris (CWD) play important structural and biogeochemical roles in forest ecosystem processes. The aim of this study was to determine the wood density and biomass of beech and hornbeam and its relationship with different degrees of decay and

Decomposition of coarse woody debris in a long-term litter manipulation experiment: A focus on nutrient availability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The majority of above-ground carbon in tropical forests is stored in wood, which is returned to the atmosphere during decomposition of coarse woody debris.

Galaxy Quenching from Cosmic Web Detachment

open access: yes, 2019
We propose the Cosmic Web Detachment (CWD) model, a framework to interpret the star-formation history of galaxies in a cosmological context. The CWD model unifies several starvation mechanisms known to disrupt or stop star formation into one single ...

Phenotypic heterogeneity of spontaneous lymphomas of CWD mice [PDF]

open access: yesBlood, 1989
Abstract Animals of the inbred mouse strain, CWD, express endogenous murine leukemia viruses early in life and have a high incidence of spontaneous neoplasms. We found that approximately one half of these animals died of malignant lymphoma by the age of 16 months.

Decreased access to therapeutic services for children with disabilities during COVID-19 stay-at-home orders in Western Pennsylvania

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine, 2022
PURPOSE: Assess the effects of stay-at-home orders on access to services utilized by families of children with disabilities (CWD). METHODS: Cross-sectional weekly surveys were fielded over four weeks, during which western Pennsylvania was under stay-at ...

Detection of chronic wasting disease prions in the farm soil of the Republic of Korea

open access: yesmSphere
Chronic wasting disease (CWD) is a highly contagious prion disease occurring in free-ranging and farmed cervids. CWD continues to spread uncontrolled across North America, and cases continue to be detected almost every year in the Republic of Korea.

Endemic chronic wasting disease causes mule deer population decline in Wyoming.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Chronic wasting disease (CWD) is a fatal transmissible spongiform encephalopathy affecting white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus), mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus), Rocky Mountain elk (Cervus elaphus nelsoni), and moose (Alces alces shirasi) in North ...
