Using List Decoding to Improve the Finite-Length Performance of Sparse Regression Codes [PDF]
We consider sparse superposition codes (SPARCs) over complex AWGN channels. Such codes can be efficiently decoded by an approximate message passing (AMP) decoder, whose performance can be predicted via so-called state evolution in the large-system limit.

Decoding the dual role of autophagy in cancer through transcriptional and epigenetic regulation
Transcriptional and epigenetic regulation controls autophagy, which exerts context‐dependent effects on cancer: Autophagy suppresses tumorigenesis by maintaining cellular homeostasis or promotes tumor progression by supporting survival under stress. In this “In a Nutshell” article, we explore the intricate mechanisms of the dual function of autophagy ...

Cyclic AMP a key messenger in the regulation of skin pigmentation.
Compelling evidence has been gathered indicating that pro-opiomelanocortin peptides, alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH) and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), through the cyclic AMP pathway, play a pivotal role in melanocyte ...

Short PDE4 Isoforms as Drug Targets in Disease
The second messenger, cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), is a master regulator of signal transduction that maintains cell homeostasis. A fine balance between cAMP synthesis by adenylyl cyclase and degradation by phosphodiesterases (PDEs) underpins ...

Involvement of cyclic AMP in multiple, excitatory actions of biogenic amines on the cardiac ganglion of the horseshoe crab Limulus polyphemus [PDF]
Cyclic AMP appears to be involved in several excitatory actions of amines on neurones of the Limulus cardiac ganglion. Amines selectively increase levels of cardiac ganglion cyclic AMP with a magnitude and time course similar

Autophagy in cancer and protein conformational disorders
Autophagy plays a crucial role in numerous biological processes, including protein and organelle quality control, development, immunity, and metabolism. Hence, dysregulation or mutations in autophagy‐related genes have been implicated in a wide range of human diseases.
