Synthesis and Transformations of di-endo-3-Aminobicyclo-[2.2.2]oct-5-ene-2-carboxylic Acid Derivatives

open access: yesMolecules, 2011
all-endo-3-amino-5-hydroxybicyclo[2.2.2]octane-2-carboxylic acid (13) and all-endo-5-amino-6-(hydroxymethyl)bicyclo[2.2.2]octan-2-ol (10) were prepared via dihydro-1,3-oxazine or g-lactone intermediates by the stereoselective functionalization of an N ...

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Expedient Synthesis of Substituted Thieno[3,2-b]thiophenes and Selenopheno[3,2-b]selenophenes Through Cascade Cyclization of Alkynyl Diol Derivatives

open access: yesMolecules
Thieno[3,2-b]thiophenes are used as key components in optoelectronic materials, porous hydrogen-storage hosts, organic solar cells, and polymer semiconductors.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Identification of a Shiga toxin A‐derived peptide internalized into Gb3 receptor‐bearing cells via interaction with the Shiga toxin B subunit

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The process of internalization of the Shiga toxin A subunit via formation of a complex with the Shiga toxin B subunit, which specifically binds to the Gb3 receptor. The peptide is designed to act as a carrier of drugs into cancer cells. Here, we explored the potential of peptides derived from the catalytic A subunit of Shiga toxin (STxA) to be drug ...

Cu–Bpin-mediated dimerization of 4,4-dichloro-2-butenoic acid derivatives enables the synthesis of densely functionalized cyclopropanes

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry
4,4-Dichloro-2-butenoic acid derivatives are shown to undergo a rare dimerization process when reacted with bis(pinacolato)diboron under copper catalysis.

Investigating transcription factor dynamics in health and disease using FRAP

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
FRAP analysis of GFP‐tagged transcription factors reveals how molecular mobility and target engagement change in response to drug treatment. By combining live‐cell imaging, quantitative model fitting, and statistical analysis, this approach uncovers transcription factor dynamics linked to disease mechanisms, providing a powerful framework for ...

AscF in the mycobacterial CIII–CIV supercomplex lacks metal and nucleotide binding but links malate oxidation to respiration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The mycobacterial CIII‐CIV respiratory supercomplex is an obligate assembly, encompassing several subunits of unknown functions. We have characterized the intracellular subunit AscF, and show that it is unlikely to be a sensor for metals or nucleotides, but is required for growth on nonfermentable energy sources, and likely works as an adapter for ...

Polyene cyclization reactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Carbocation cyclization cascades catalyzed by terpenoid cyclases rank among the most important and the most complex carbon-carbon bond forming reactions in chemistry and biology.

Synthesis of 9-Phenylacridines via Ortho-Lithiation-Cyclization Sequence [PDF]

open access: yes
Herein, we describe a previously unreported formation of acridines from triarylcarbinols under acidic conditions. Thus, treatment of tertiary alcs. with conc. aq. HCl in glacial AcOH at 90° provided 9-phenylacridines in 91-92% yield.
