High Prevalence of a Novel Circovirus in the European Hedgehog (<i>Erinaceus europaeus</i>), a Common Species in Decline. [PDF]
Hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus) declines in western Europe have been associated with the emergence of Hedgehog diphtheric disease (HDD), with a probable multifactorial, yet unidentified etiology. We used metagenomic sequencing of cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) in hedgehog blood to identify possible causes of HDD.

Cycloviruses, small ssDNA viruses belonging to the Circoviridae family, have been suggested as possible causes of enteric, respiratory and neurological disorders in human patients. One of these species, cyclovirus-Vietnam (CyCV-VN), initially isolated from cerebrospinal fluid samples of patients with unexplained neurological disorders, has since been ...

Gut Virome of Tibetan Pigs Reveals the Diversity, Composition, and Distribution of Potential Novel Viruses/Variants. [PDF]
As a local breed adapted to the extreme environment of the Tibetan Plateau, Tibetan pigs have not yet been systematically characterized in terms of their gut viral communities. In this study, we applied viral metagenomics to sequence fecal samples from 191 Tibetan pigs (including both healthy and diarrheal individuals) across four farms in Nyingchi ...

Abstract Background It has been estimated that microorganisms are involved in the pathogenesis of approximately 20% of all cancers. Testicular germ cell tumours (TGCTs) are the most common type of malignancy in young men and arise from the precursor cell, germ cell neoplasia in situ (GCNIS).

Circoviruses are a group of small circular, single‐stranded DNA viruses that belong to the family Circoviridae. They are known to infect a wide variety of animals. Rhizomys sinensis is a species of rodent that is the reservoir of many zoonotic pathogens. Our previous study identified many sequencing reads mapped to the genome of viruses in Circoviridae

Emergence of porcine circovirus‐like viruses associated with porcine diarrheal disease in China
Abstract Background The circular replication‐associated protein (Rep)‐encoding single‐stranded (CRESS) DNA virus emergence in diverse host has been associated with severe disease. Porcine circovirus‐like virus (Po‐Circo‐like [PCL] virus) is a CRESS DNA virus, the prevalence and pathogenicity of which are rarely studied.

A Novel Coronavirus and a Broad Range of Viruses in Kenyan Cave Bats
Background and Methods: To investigate virus diversity in hot zones of probable pathogen spillover, 54 oral-fecal swabs were processed from five bat species collected from three cave systems in Kenya, using metagenome sequencing.
