CYHV-3 Infection Dynamics in Common Carp (Cyprinus Carpio) – Evaluation of Diagnostic Methods

open access: yesBulletin of the Veterinary Institute in Pulawy, 2012
Abstract The KHV free carp were experimentally infected with CyHV-3 suspension by immersion at temperatures of 18ºC±1 and 25ºC±1. Skin, brain, gills, liver, spleen, kidneys, and leukocytes were investigated for the presence of KHV DNA, and sera for the presence of antibodies against the virus.

Draining and liming of ponds as an effective measure for containment of CyHV-3 in carp farms [PDF]

open access: yesDiseases of Aquatic Organisms, 2016
Infections of common carp Cyprinus carpio and koi, its coloured morphotypes, with the cyprinid herpesvirus 3 (CyHV-3) can induce severe clinical signs and increased mortality in affected stocks. This may significantly challenge the economic basis of carp farming in Central Europe. To limit virus spread in carp farms, effective disinfection measures for

Don’t Let It Get Under Your Skin! – Vaccination Protects the Skin Barrier of Common Carp From Disruption Caused by Cyprinid Herpesvirus 3

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2022
Vaccination is the best form of protecting fish against viral diseases when the pathogen cannot be contained by biosecurity measures. Vaccines based on live attenuated viruses seem to be most effective for vaccination against challenging pathogens like ...

Detection of Cyprinid herpesvirus-3 (CyHV-3) DNA in infected fish tissues by nested polymerase chain reaction [PDF]

open access: yesDiseases of Aquatic Organisms, 2007
Diagnostic tests with high analytical sensitivity are required to detect Cyprinid herpesvirus-3 (CyHV-3) in carriers that have been implicated in the dissemination of this important disease of koi and common carp Cyprinus carpio. A nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test was developed to detect CyHV-3 DNA in tissues of infected fish.

Investigation of β-Carboline Alkaloid Harmaline Against Cyvirus cyprinidallo3 Infection In Vitro and In Vivo

open access: yesViruses
Cyvirus cyprinidallo3, also known as Cyprinid herpesvirus 3 (CyHV-3), is a common pathogen of koi and common carp (Cyprinus carpio). Infection of CyHV-3 can lead to high mortality in fry under 4 months of age.

A new genus-level geminivirus lineage isolated from the South African fynbos [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A new genus-level geminivirus lineage isolated from the South African fynbos. The state of the art on the diversity of plant viruses mainly concerns those causing symptoms affecting plants of economic interest.

Fish Poxviruses on the Rise: Prospects for Aquatic Health

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Fish poxviruses are increasingly recognised as emerging pathogens of fish and should be considered in cases of unexplained gill or skin pathology. Carp edema virus (CEV), the causative agent of koi sleepy disease in common carp and koi (Cyprinus carpio), represents the first known example.

Inhibitory properties of crude microalgal extracts on the in vitro replication of cyprinid herpesvirus 3

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Microalgae are possible sources of antiviral substances, e.g. against cyprinid herpesvirus 3 (CyHV-3). Although this virus leads to high mortalities in aquacultures, there is no treatment available yet. Hence, ethanolic extracts produced with accelerated

CRISPR‐Enhanced RAA‐SHERLOCK Assay for Point‐of‐Care Detection of Cyprinid Herpesvirus‐3: Development, Validation and Clinical Application

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, Volume 49, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Koi herpesvirus disease (KHVD), caused by Cyprinid herpesvirus‐3 (CyHV‐3), poses a significant threat to global aquaculture due to its high mortality rates and economic impact. Current diagnostic methods, such as PCR, are limited by equipment dependency and procedural complexity, hindering point‐of‐care (POC) applications.

Laboratory validation of a lateral flow device for the detection of CyHV-3 antigens in gill swabs [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Virological Methods, 2013
Cyprinid herpesvirus-3 (CyHV-3) induces the highly contagious koi herpesvirus disease (KHVD) and may result in significant economic losses to the ornamental and food-producing carp industry. Suspicion of KHVD is triggered by clinical signs and confirmed using laboratory techniques.
