Changes in cystathionine gamma-lyase levels in rat liver during lactation.
Biochemistry and molecular biology international, 1994Rat liver cystathionine gamma-lyase activity increased rapidly with the onset of lactation, reaching a maximum value at week 2 and slowly decreasing thereafter. In non-lactating rats, from which the litters had been removed on the day of birth, the activity of this enzyme increased only minimally.

Mechanism of S-(carboxymethylthio)cysteine cleavage by rat liver cystathionine-gamma-lyase.
Physiological chemistry and physics, 1979Rat liver cystathionine-gamma-lyase [L-cystathionine cysteinelyase (deaminating), EC 4.4.1.1] catalyzes the formation of pyruvic acid, ammonia, and carboxymethylhydrodisulfide from S-(carboxymethylthio)cysteine (CMTC). As judged by pyruvic acid production, the optimal pH is 8.3 in tris-HCl buffer and the Km is 2.9 mM.

Endogenous cystathionine-gamma-lyase/hydrogen sulfide pathway regulates apoptosis of HepG2 cells.
Yao xue xue bao = Acta pharmaceutica Sinica, 2016This study is to investigate the role of endogenous CSE/H2S in regulating apoptosis of HepG2 cells. MTT and Trypan blue assay were performed to determine the effect of CSE inhibitor PAG and CSE siRNA on proliferation of HepG2. Production of H2S from HepG2 cells was assessed spectrophotometrically using N, N-dimethyl-p-phenylenediamine-dihydrochloride ...

Human cystathionine gamma-lyase: developmental and in vitro expression of two isoforms.
The Biochemical journal, 2000Cystathionine gamma-lyase (CGL) is the last enzyme of the trans-sulphuration pathway, which converts methionine into cysteine. To study the possible differences in enzymic activity of the two human cystathionine gamma-lyase isoforms characterized earlier, these were separately expressed in human kidney embryonic 293T cells.
