Multi‐Omic Profiling Reveals Immune Cell Priming Signature Linked to Lupus Prognosis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a multiorgan disease with widespread immune dysregulation and significant unmet clinical need. Blood‐based gene expression studies have advanced our understanding of SLE pathogenesis but may overlook critical tissue‐specific mechanisms that drive disease heterogeneity and progression.

Megalin dependent urinary cystatin C excretion in ischemic kidney injury in rats. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Cystatin C, a marker of kidney injury, is freely filtered in the glomeruli and reabsorbed by the proximal tubules. Megalin and cubilin are endocytic receptors essential for reabsorption of most filtered proteins.

Targeting neutrophil extracellular traps in metabolic and immune niche: Nanomaterials for diabetes tissue regeneration

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
The effects of NETs on regeneration of various diabetic tissues, and strategies targeting NETs for diabetes tissue regeneration. In the diabetic environment, NETs undergo complex metabolic and immune reprogramming, leading to dynamic changes in antibacterial and proinflammatory functions, and affecting regeneration of multiple systemic tissues.

Causal Associations Between Cystatin and Lung Cancer: A Two‐Sample Mendelian Randomization Study

open access: yesThe Clinical Respiratory Journal
Introduction The cystatin family is particularly relevant in lung cancer research due to its links to inflammation, protease balance, and tumor progression.

Effect of Late Second to Early Third Trimester of Pregnancy on the Activity of Renal Organic Anion Transporters (OAT1 and OAT3): A Biomarker Study

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Pregnant individuals take drugs throughout pregnancy and many of these drugs (e.g., antivirals, antibiotics) are eliminated by renal organic anion transporters (OAT) 1 and OAT3. In vivo studies with OAT1/3 substrate drugs suggest that pregnancy increases renal OAT1/3 activities by 1.5‐ to 1.8‐fold.

Differential in vitro and in vivo effect of barley cysteine and serine protease inhibitors on phytopathogenic microorganisms

open access: yes, 2011
Protease inhibitors from plants have been involved in defence mechanisms against pests and pathogens. Phytocystatins and trypsin/α-amylase inhibitors are two of the best characterized protease inhibitor families in plants.

Glomerular and Tubular Functions in Children and Adults with Transfusion-Dependent Thalassemia

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Hematology, 2018
This study aimed at assessing renal functions in patients with transfusion-dependent thalassemia (TDT). Fifty patients and 30 controls were enrolled in this prospective study. Serum levels of electrolytes and albumin were measured by a spectrophotometer.

Clinical Model‐Informed Precision Dosing Consult Service for Accelerating Personalized Medication in Pediatric Patients

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Traditional dosing strategies often rely on a “one‐size‐fits‐all” paradigm, assuming an “average” patient with typical demographic and pharmacological characteristics. In reality, this often overlooks existing between‐patient variability and can lead to suboptimal drug exposure or toxicity. This issue is especially pronounced in pediatric patients, who

Cystatin activity–based protease profiling to select protease inhibitors useful in plant protection

open access: yes, 2020
Protease inhibitors of the cystatin protein superfamily show potential in plant protection for the control of herbivorous pests. Here, we describe a cystatin activity–based profiling procedure for the selection of potent cystatin candidates, using single

Cystatin and glomerular filtration rate equations in old renal transplant donors

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Internal Medicine, 2019
Introduction Early detection of renal dysfunction in live kidney donors is important and needs easy reliable tools. The aim of the study is to evaluate the cystatin level and cystatin-based equation in assessment of renal function in old healthy kidney ...
