The Carboxypeptidase Activity of Cathepsin X is Not Controlled by Endogenous Inhibitors
Cysteine cathepsins are peptidases with housekeeping functions that play different specific roles in different tissues. Endogenous peptidase inhibitors, such as cystatins and thyropins are the ultimate way of controlling their activity.

GFR Estimation After Cystatin C Reference Material Change
Introduction: Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is routinely estimated with cystatin C. In June 2010, the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry (IFCC) released a certified cystatin C reference material (ERM-DA471/IFCC), and new cystatin C ...

Urinary Tubular Injury Biomarkers Are Associated With ESRD and Death in the REGARDS Study. [PDF]
IntroductionUrinary neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (uNGAL) and urinary kidney injury molecule-1 (uKIM-1) are established markers of subclinical acute kidney injury.

Comparing Results of Five Glomerular Filtration Rate-Estimating Equations in the Korean General Population. MDRD Study, Revised Lund-Malmö, and Three CKD-EPI Equations [PDF]
Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) is a widely used index of kidney function. Recently, new formulas such as the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) equations or the Lund-Malmö equation were introduced for assessing eGFR.

Cystatins are natural cysteine protease inhibitors which belong to a superfamily of proteins with wide occurrence in tissues. The cystatins have been shown to play multiple roles in normal and disease processes. In many different cancers the cathepsins, enzymes inhibited by cystatins, are elevated and participate in tumor growth and invasion.

Cystatin 11: A New Member of the Cystatin Type 2 Family [PDF]
Cystatin (CST)11, a novel member of the CST type 2 family of cysteine protease inhibitors, was identified in Macaca mulatta epididymis by subtractive hybridization cloning. The human CST11 gene on chromosome 20p11.2 is located near three other CST genes expressed predominantly in the male reproductive tract.

Pregnant individuals take drugs throughout pregnancy and many of these drugs (e.g., antivirals, antibiotics) are eliminated by renal organic anion transporters (OAT) 1 and OAT3. In vivo studies with OAT1/3 substrate drugs suggest that pregnancy increases renal OAT1/3 activities by 1.5‐ to 1.8‐fold.

Traditional dosing strategies often rely on a “one‐size‐fits‐all” paradigm, assuming an “average” patient with typical demographic and pharmacological characteristics. In reality, this often overlooks existing between‐patient variability and can lead to suboptimal drug exposure or toxicity. This issue is especially pronounced in pediatric patients, who

Abstract Aims Cardiac decompensation in cardiorenal syndrome (CRS) results in systemic congestion usually treated with diuretics. When despite high doses of diuretics, response is poor, ultrafiltration (UF) appears to be a useful and safe technique.
