Critical Reviews in Oral Biology & Medicine, 1993The synthesis of human cystatins of family II is controlled by a multigene family having at least 7 members that are localized on chromosome 20, the cystatin gene family. Proteolytic degradation and phosphorylation of the gene products give rise to heterogeneity and multiplicity of cystatins in human saliva.

Cysteine proteinase inhibitors in human squamous cell carcinoma
Acta Histochemica, 1989Cysteine proteinase inhibitors in Tris extract of human skin squamous cell carcinoma tissue were studied. From 17.2g of the tissue, approximately equal to 113.5 U inhibitor was obtained. Binding Energetics Of The Inhibitor Cystatin To The Cysteine Proteinase Actinidin
Protein & Peptide Letters, 2003The binding energetics of actinidin to chicken cystatin was determined from fluorometric titrations at different temperatures. It is shown that the association of actinidin with cystatin is both enthalpically and entropically driven, with a negative change in the heat capacity.

Peptide Methyl Ketones as Reversible Inhibitors of Cysteine Proteinases
Journal of Enzyme Inhibition, 1989Peptide methyl ketones represent a new class of reversible, competitive cysteine proteinase inhibitor with little or no effect on serine proteinases. The affinity of the inhibitors to papain (EC 3.4.22.3), cathepsin B (EC 3.4.22.1) and cathepsin L (EC 3.4.22.15) depends on the peptide chain length and on side-chain effects.

Cysteine proteinase inhibitors and bleomycin-sensitive and -resistant cells
Biochemical Pharmacology, 1991We have isolated a new human head and neck carcinoma cell line (C-10E) that is highly resistant to BLM (40-fold) when compared to the parental (A-253) cell line. Consonant with BLM resistance in the C-10E cell line, we found that this cell line accumulated 2- to 3-fold less BLM A2 than A-253 cells.

Clinical Biochemistry, 1983Variation in alpha-cysteine proteinase inhibitor levels in human sera were investigated with special attention to the effect of pregnancy and diseases. The inhibitor level in 111 pregnant women, examined by our previous method, increased as the pregnancy advanced.

Characterization and Structure of Pineapple Stem Inhibitor of Cysteine Proteinases
Biological Chemistry Hoppe-Seyler, 1992The complete amino acid sequence of the inhibitor of cysteine proteinases from pineapple stem acetone powder was determined. The inhibitor consists of 52 amino acids and is composed of two polypeptide chains (41 and 11 amino acids) linked via disulphide bonds. It differs from already known sequences in one to four amino acids.

Folding studies of the cysteine proteinase inhibitor — human stefin A
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Protein Structure and Molecular Enzymology, 1991Reversible GuHCl denaturation of human stefin A (25 degrees C, pH 8) was monitored by the tyrosine fluorescence, by circular dichroism in the near UV and by circular dichroism in the far UV. In each case a midpoint of 2.8 +/- 0.1 M GuHCl was obtained, demonstrating the cooperativity of the denaturation.
