Differences in protein mobility between pioneer versus follower growth cones [PDF]
Navigating growth cones need to integrate, process and respond to guidance signals, requiring dynamic information transfer within and between different compartments.

Malleicyprol, a virulence factor of notorious animal and human pathogens of the Burkholderia pseudomallei (BP) group, features a molecular cyclopropanol warhead linked to a reactive butenolide core. Biosynthetic considerations suggested that this heterocycle was formed by the merger of two individual polyketide chains, but the precise mechanism has ...

Optical measurement of osmotic water transport in cultured cells. Role of glucose transporters. [PDF]
Methodology was developed to measure osmotic water permeability in monolayer cultured cells and applied to examine the proposed role of glucose transporters in the water pathway (1989. Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA. 86:8397-8401).

Interaction Between Actin and Microtubules During Plant Development
ABSTRACT The dynamic interaction between actin filaments (AFs) and microtubules (MTs) plays a crucial role in regulating key developmental and physiological processes in plant cells, particularly in the formation of specialized cell types with distinct shapes and functions, such as pollen tubes, trichomes, and leaf epidermal cells.

TGFβ is a potent regulator of several biological functions in many cell types, but its role in the differentiation of human bone marrow-derived skeletal stem cells (hMSCs) is currently poorly understood. In the present study, we demonstrate that a single

Mechanical deformation of monocytic THP-1 cells : occurrence of two seqential phases with differential sensitivity to metabolic inhibitors [PDF]
Blood leukocytes can exhibit extensive morphological changes during their passage through small capillary vessels. The human monocytic THP-1 cell line was used to explore the metabolic dependence of these shape changes. Cells were aspirated into micropipettes for determination of the rate of protrusion formation.

Dynamic regulation of quaternary organization of the M1 muscarinic receptor by subtype-selective antagonist drugs [PDF]
Although rhodopsin-like G protein-coupled receptors can exist as both monomers and non-covalently associated dimers/oligomers, the steady-state proportion of each form and whether this is regulated by receptor ligands is unknown.

Abstract Bacterial extracellular vesicles (BEVs) are actively secreted nanostructures that play a unique role in the pathogenesis of bacterial infections. In this study, we established an intestinal epithelial cell (IEC)/macrophage coculture system and found that Listeria monocytogenes (LM) membrane vesicles (MVs) acted on macrophages and caused ...
